I was looking through policy documents for our dog's pet insurance, since I stumbled onto some really negative reviews of the company.

I discovered that Dancing Doberman Disease is an excluded condition. Good to know!

On my road bike I have a cassette for each set of wheels... but that ain't happening on the MTB. The SRAM 10-42 X01 cassette is like $320!!!

I could go get a GX level cassette for like $100, but that's worse than what I already have (which is OEM only and in between GX and X01). Even the cheap cassette is about twice what I'm willing to pay.

I am going to get the fancy floating rotors with the Ti bolts, though. They're not that much more expensive. Brakes get so much use on a MTB. They're like my fav thing on the bike, which is weird, for sure.

And youse guys look down your noses at vintage. I have only one bike that I have more than $300 in. Are you a more satisfied rider (speaking collectively on both counts)?

It's been fun to have two A bikes. I initially only rode the BMC and was slightly disappointed. Broken Carbon fixed the Cervelo and I went back to it. That bike is the best all around bike I've owned. Acceleration and steering is quicker, climbs better, and is light as hell. I think the Enve 1.0 fork, plus Enve components, really squeeze the last bit of potential out of the bike.

Only until recently have I begun to really appreciate the BMC. It's a very different bike, but what it brings to the table is pretty sweet. There is definitely something to having an aero frame. As I get stronger, the bike is more and more fun. I went down to a 100mm stem and that dialed the fit in. I've switched back to the BMC as the daily rider with the Enve 65/45 and the G3. Rear end is stiffer and front end, even with the slightly flexy carbon K-wings, is the same as the Cervelo.

The BMC is also hot. Hotter than most. I rolled into Ubikes for a powertap battery change and had people around it immediately. I haven't seen another one in town, other than Phinney and his mustache in street clothes riding up 9th. Cervelos are a dime a dozen.

I should start a thread. 2009 bike better than 2015? That's crazy talk.

I'm not looking down my nose at anyone. I bought a good bike in the hopes that it'll last long enough that I can call it vintage some day and still be riding it.

I do get a lot of satisfaction from the 1x11 drivetrain. It works really well.

Some guy the other day started a thread saying he has a 2009 Cervelo S1 and is just getting back into riding. He wanted to know whether he should "upgrade" to a Foil.

Fortunately, we talked him off the ledge.

2009 and 2015 carbon bikes better than semi custom metal frame?

Yes, he was the historian in the group. He lost it somewhere. The election changed a lot of people.

I was having a hard time motivating myself to get out the door for errands on this dreary day, but BF changed my mind. A post reminded me that Aldi recently received bike repair stands, so I figured that was a good excuse to get on with the grocery shopping and see if my local Aldi had a stand. They did, but they don't any more. Yup, I'm a high roller.

Had you not replied, I would have deleted that post. Sticker shock is all.

That S1 was a bit harsh. My wife rides the 2009 S2. He should hold on to it because when it cracks at the seatpost junction, Cervelo will honor the lifetime warranty if he's the original owner. Since they don't make aluminum frames, he probably gets carbon.

Kudos. I stopped by Aldi during lunch to get a pair of $9 tree trimmers (or loppers or whatever you call them... yard scissors?)

Was doing annually. But when my doc got his license revoked (interesting story), the new guy has been seeing me twice a year. I can't complain about that.

How bad does a doctor have to be to be de-licensed? Scary.

Oh stop. You're like the grumpy old man. From a performance perspective, your bike cannot compare to modern bike technology. That's why it's called vintage. That has nothing to do with enjoyment. Riding my 1989 Redline puts a smile on my face.

Also, luckily I get to choose what I spend my money on and it's a hell of lot better than hookers and blow.

We had a guy lose his license in my area recently. Chronic alcohol issues in his case. It takes a lot, though. Apparently he'd been disciplined going back over a decade fro the same behavior.

I already publically regretted the post.:). Nothing wrong with hookers and blow. I can't afford those either.
I'm blaming the heat for my somewhat fowl mood the last couple days.
Let's just all try to get along.
