WhyFi, I've been watching tomorrow's forecast as it gets closer and rain keeps getting more likely. We lucked out at last year's MN Major ride, but it's safe to say we are getting wet and muddy tomorrow.

The b-road is gonna be squishy! I might have to walk it with my short reach brakes that fill with mud.

Not much thought, here in the valley.

We used to leave from Central Park and ride up to Bear Mountain and back. A few guys made it a regular thing, but I bailed after the second time. I just couldn't see the point in intentionally making oneself uncomfortable. I figured if I'm going to be spending that much energy I might as well be playing a ball sport. :D

Agreed.

I can only tolerate a long ride when there's a destination involved. For example, riding to or from a vacation destination.

In fact a lot of my rides back then were for the purpose of going to play a ball sport.

Many of mine are to the kids' baseball / basketball tournaments.

They love it when Lycra-clad dad shows up.

There was no way to ride 100 miles with other people and be in front of the TV with a beer by 11:00 a.m. Unpossible.

The other people are too slow, I take it?

I'm feeling better about putting the fatties on, but I still need to get out on a test ride. I told the wife that I didn't plan on riding much (if at all) today, since the M56 is tomorrow... so she took that as a green light to have me pick up and plant a tree in the yard.

Also haven't decided on whether or not to squeeze out to REI for a packable rain shell for tomorrow. :foo:

No shell for me, but I'm bagging my feet. I hate wet feet.

Did my >100 mile ride today. Felt good and was the strongest of the 10 riders for the last 10 miles. I credit my eating/drinking strategy along with a good deal of wheel sucking the first half of the ride.

Between socks/shoes? Or over shoes?

I've got the neoprene booties. I'm sure that my feet will still be soaked at the end of the ride, but at least they'll be warm, too.

Man, this morning would have been perfect for the ride. Tomorrow, notsomuch.

Did you see that framed bikes is giving away a gravel bike as a door prize, WhyFi?

That means the rain increases our odds from 1:500 to, like, 1:10!

No, I didn't. Cool. Is this related to picking up a card (or whatever) at the rest stop at the drawing at the end?

Yes, pick up card at chimney rock and see if it matches at kings bar.

The Buff Classic is not a race.

Oh yeah, that reminds me - I don't have a map/GPS file. This means that I can't drop you. :foo:

:p

My kid has a fever so he built his birthday present from his grandma in Chicago. Jek-14 starfighter. Slave 1 is next.

You can, just don't get dropped by whoever you latch onto.

I would discuss the drafting of a Div II tight end in the second round, but I don't think anyone is interested.

When did that ever stop anybody?

When you can do 50 in the mtns, without a thought, my theory says you can do 100, also in the mtns. Certainly in the valley. Practically anybody can get on a bike and ride 10-15 flat miles the first time, in my experience.

RPK79 04-29-17 02:55 PM

I put it out to my photographer uncle that there was a big gravel ride tomorrow that might make for good photos.

I gave him a few key locations, like they muddy b road.

Will do kudos on Strava later. For now, Chapeau! :thumb:
