The wind is so strong, I have concerns about the bike in the stand, out on the porch. Might be time to finish that project.

Next time, leave your gloves on the floor with a surprise. I'm sure you can come up with something.

Maybe a rubber band with a hair trigger.

I'm thinking a hair-trigger punt out of the door.

I have the perfect solution. I am on my third pair of replacement Giro gloves. The first pair made it 6 weeks and the second, 4. After this next pair blows out, I will be set for a long time. I suggested they save us both the trouble and just send me a new pair every two months for life.

That's the thing - I'm not much for gloves. I'll wear them when it's under ~45°, but I'm not a fan otherwise; I don't wear them for protection as some do. As such, I'm reluctant to buy light-weight (non-insulated) gloves in the first place, and having to replace something so infrequently used would add insult to injury.

So far, I've washed them. I've saturated them with an enzyme cleaner. I've turned them inside-out and washed and then saturated them again. The cat only pissed on one glove - if I can't tell which is was after the next round, I'll call it good. Otherwise, it's an REI trip and 40 bucks out the window.

Same here. I started warm weather glove using after crashing and getting a bunch of pebbles imbedded in my palm. I gave that up a few years ago.

There was no way to ride 100 miles with other people and be in front of the TV with a beer by 11:00 a.m. Unpossible.

sbxx1985 04-29-17 10:19 AM

After the first game the Bears season usually goes downhill. The first game is a time of great optimism.

BillyD 04-29-17 10:21 AM

I was just a pup last time I rode a century, damn near 40 years ago. Did two of them back then, you know, just a group of guys feeling adventurous.

We used to leave from Central Park and ride up to Bear Mountain and back. A few guys made it a regular thing, but I bailed after the second time. I just couldn't see the point in intentionally making oneself uncomfortable. I figured if I'm going to be spending that much energy I might as well be playing a ball sport. :D

BillyD 04-29-17 10:23 AM

In fact a lot of my rides back then were for the purpose of going to play a ball sport.

Back in my 20s I used to be on my bike almost every day for one reason or another. I considered myself a cycling fanatic, but I only had my friends to compare myself to.

Once I started hanging around BF I soon realized what a real cycling fanatic was, I actually thought a lot of you people were lying in terms of mileage and riding all winter and doing centuries and all. Now I realize you people are just crazy. Nice people, lovable and all, but stone frikkin' crazy. :roflmao2:

I use them for sweat transpiration.

Man those are some cheap**** V brakes! If I tighten the nuts enough to hold the adjustment, I'll strip the bolts. It's basically a give-a-way bike, so I'm not going to worry about it.
Resting up for the test ride.

So they were $4 new??? Yeah, they pretty much gotta suck.

I almost came to you for advice. Figured you'd have some recent experience.

Really? Sweat is one of the main reasons that I don't wear them. I feel like my bare skin does a better job of dealing with perspiration than my covered skin does; gloves just end up feeling hot and clammy and gross. Are you using some woven-back, super-wicking jobbers or something? Of course, we live in slightly different climates, but...

I have never ridden without gloves. I didn't know it was possible.

Why would anyone be a Bears fan?

But it is not just anyone. It is very special someones. That is the answer to your question if you get my meaning.

I don't.

Born into it.

I would discuss the drafting of a Div II tight end in the second round, but I don't think anyone is interested.

RPK79 04-29-17 12:10 PM

Gloves are nice 'cause you can wipe your boogies on 'em.

rpenmanparker 04-29-17 12:11 PM

My photo shoot was a bit of a fiasco. Lens recommended by you guys was right on. But I thought it was going to be a moving tour so I brought the monopod. Instead it was much more static. We stopped at four places for 25 minutes each. So I could have used a regular tripod quite nicely. My friend was shooting with a tripod at ISO 100 for 20 seconds. I had a faster lens, but still had to shoot at ISO 800 for 1/4 second or so. I'm afraid I got crap. Probably a ton of noise. I am uploading the file now. Stay tuned. More to come.

I use Giro Bravos. I tried the Nashbar old timey ones with the crocheted back and they quickly rotted away. Without any gloves, I am unable to maintain any grip on the bars. I've even used Giro Zeros, but they don't wick the sweat as well.

Gloves only when it's cold for me. I even do mellower MTB races sans gloves.
