Yep, I have thought for some time that jersey makers really should think about a small zip-up pocket on the front breast.

I have two French-made jerseys from PBP back in the 2000s, and both have those pockets. Darned handy for phones, or used to be MP3 players (I have used ear buds in the past, but riding with Machka means I have to pay attention to what she might say, rather than music).

Now, though, with the QuadLock device, I can put my phone on the bars, have Strava (including HRM pick-up) going iwth GPS, and listen to music or take calls as I need to. I did think the other day, however, that using the phone on the bike while moving is, strictly, illegal.

A friend just posted a 106 mile ride out to Mt Gretna and back for Saturday. Like a fool, I agreed to go.

What should I eat for a century?

I like to do a sit down meal 2/3 of the way through. But not long enough for my legs to stiffen up. I did this even as a spring chicken like you are. I have no need to do a five hour century.
If you do though, I'd suggest you take some gels with you. And something salty.

datlas 04-24-17 05:51 PM

I am expecting a 17 MPH pace, so it will be a 6 hour century. More like 7 if you include food and rest stops. Not too hilly, allegedly 5500 feet of climbing.

800 cal/hour, mostly fried meats. You'll thank me later.

Of course mine was the vegetarian recommendation.

Ok for my Spain trip I am thinking of using the PNS. What's a good way to hold the paper map over the bar and/or stem?

Does K-Edge have a holder for that?

Race was totally uneventful. Someone attacked on the first lap but he was caught quickly. Second and third lap were slow as ****. With like three miles to go I decided to attack right before the steepest section. I think I overdid that initial attack, hit new Pmax for the year and everything (893 watts :o.) Got some gap but a few quickly caught up with me. Couldn't hold on to the eventual winner's wheel, then hung with a group of two, but couldn't keep those wheels either. A few more passed me and I got seventh place in the end. Not bad I guess. Hit power PRs for 1-5 seconds, 1 minute, and all the way from 4 to 10 minutes. Guess that finale was hard after all :D. In retrospect, I should have waited until after that steep section, pretty sure that would've worked better. Was a fun weekend all in all.

Since we are riding through Lancaster County, I was thinking shoo-fly pie.

Why? They have the internet/GPS in Spain, you know.

Where in Spain are you going?

Pick some mushrooms.

You can also spend the week fueling up. Lots of slow burn carbs--vegies and grains, high quality bread. It's so much better to go into it with a full battery, rather than do the quick fix as you go along. Plenty of water, of course.
Awaiting the ride report.

Oh gawd many of our routes go through Kennett Square in Chester County, the mushroom capital of the world. The mushroom soil really stinks.

Stably mount a handlebar bag and load it up with a dish of steak and potatoes.

I do not.

Mostly Barcelona but 3 days in Girona, and 2 days in Tarragona. I was thinking of buying a Garmin for the trip, as I don't have one...but may just do it old school.

I hope you speak Catalan because they don't speak Spanish in those places.

Just kidding.

You know, I'm not a touring cyclist at all, but if I were touring I think I would opt for paper maps as well. I don't know why, exactly.

I was talking to a guy at the shop today. He's looking at getting a Roubaix Expert. At one point he mentioned that he needed to upgrade from his flip phone, so he could track his ride. I assured him that wouldn't be necessary.

I don't know Catalan but between Castillian Spanish and English I think we can manage.

Edit: last year we went to Andalusia and that was a piece of cake, language wise.
