Re: Spain

In 2010, my wife and I did a supported tandem tour starting in Barcelona and heading down the coast to Valencia, Malaga, Gibraltar, Tangier, Jerez, and up to Lisbon. Loved the food.

I wouldn't judge a cyclist as capable of anything based on road riding. Esp. anyone with a tri background... Just saying.

Still, I'd rather a scape or a bruise than get hit by a car or go down on my own at over 20 mph with nothing but lycra and a helmet for protection.

I actually have a strobe tuner I could use for this... that would be an interesting experiment.

Yep, I have thought for some time that jersey makers really should think about a small zip-up pocket on the front breast.

I have two French-made jerseys from PBP back in the 2000s, and both have those pockets. Darned handy for phones, or used to be MP3 players (I have used ear buds in the past, but riding with Machka means I have to pay attention to what she might say, rather than music).

Now, though, with the QuadLock device, I can put my phone on the bars, have Strava (including HRM pick-up) going iwth GPS, and listen to music or take calls as I need to. I did think the other day, however, that using the phone on the bike while moving is, strictly, illegal.

The problem with that is if you unzip for ventilation, or to look pro, then any weight on the breast part of the jersey is going to be a big problem.

I have an iphone. The speaker is just loud enough to get by. Once upon a time I bought a BT speaker for $50 off amazon to mount to the top tube. Talk about fredly. However, it became obvious that my phone was actually louder than the speaker so I sent it back.

So in honor of the recent Sam Bush concert I pulled out the 'ol mando to remember his version of Brilliancy from the Glamour and Grits CD. I remember it, but damn if you don't practice on that instrument regularly is it freaking painful to play.

This is a cool video of Sam playing that tune going up the gondola at Telluride. It seems like he hasn't played that tune in a while either. It make me feel good to seem him struggling on the same parts I was a minute ago, too.

You can do a lot on the mandolin . . . .

LOL

A diner, yes. I like to smell the roses when I do longish rides. It's so different here than there. Hundreds of little diners everywhere, and hardly any restaurants, except in the city.

POC released the Octal XC, which is supposedly for off road.

It's almost exactly the same as the Octal AVIP for road, but they added arimid fiber to the bridge to enhance its impact resistance.

Apparently, the helmet mfg thinks MTB riders hit their heads harder.

I spent an hour with a few online piano lessons tonight. Here is what I learned:

• The names of the white keys.

• The names of the black keys.

• How the bass and treble clefs and musical notation staff relates to the piano keyboard

• That it will take me the better part of a month to learn how to play Twinkle Little Star like a 3 year old

Happily Pcad is not in any hurry on this.
