Anyway, we have lots of pine cones in the yard. Too many to rake up, in fact. I've been passing over them with the mower, which makes a heck of a pinging noise. Wifey thinks it's going to kill the mower, I say it may dull the blade faster than grass but you can sharpen those and it doesn't pose any real danger to the machine itself.

What say you, Addiction lawn care experts?

You're probably right, but that's probably irrelevant. We use a tool called (no, not kidding) a Nut Wizard to pick up walnuts. I wouldn't be surprised if it worked for pine cones or if they made a slightly different one for pine cones. It's a ~$30 tool, easy/fast - worth looking in to.

Wow, just looked that thing up. Someone created a multi-head version-

Bye bye pinecones! May have to pick one of those up :thumb:

All this talk about heads and nuts is not family-friendly. Just sayin'.

topslop1 05-04-17 07:55 AM

You don't have to be a wizard to be a nut. HO HO HO.

Ha - that's huge. They must get a huge yield out of their tree(s).

Just did a quick search and there is a pine cone version but this particular one is a little more spendy ($100). I would be surprised if you couldn't find something similar/identical for less.

New finance girl made a point to say that she checked me out on linked in, that we are similar in age, and inquired about the 'crazy girlfriend ' that calls and asks for me. That's the nick name that we gave to one of our customers. My radar for expressed interest is shot to hell, but I'd say that's a light ping. I'm not in the habit to poop where I eat, but it's not everyday I'm chased, if even lightly. Hmmmmm.

In other news I'm told by Jtay that Salsa is falling behind consumer demand? :(

No idea, it's from the Internet. I found it when I was trying to articulate the mastery concept when discussing this elsewhere.

It's why the comments about being "competitive" on this rec rides are so frustrating to hear. Because I am competitive but in that context I'm not being competitive. I'm just trying to go up the hill faster, to see if I can. It has nothing to do with anyone else and everything to do with a sense of mastery.

I feel like @Heathpack mentioned at some point that she has a "real" camera too, just uses iphone for her bike rides.

If that was with an iphone, color me impressed for being close enough to get that Kestrel (RT1000? Legend? Talon?) in the shot.

Edit: Never mind, she responded.

If she checked you out on linkedin but not FB, she's not interested. Move along.

I hear that - makes riding together fun if someone throws a little heat down here and there at least. Keeps you on your toes.

I don't have FB, l.i. is the only source available ;)

What many don't realize is the club ride is the race, for many people. If you are trying to get up the hill as quickly as you can, and someone, or three others are doing the same thing, it does turn into a race. Not in your mind, per se, but it happens.

I like what Dennis said the other day. Some people train to race, others race to train. Those are the dudes doing the crits for their interval work so they can drope the hamer on the group ride.

Agree. There are those that don't actually race that are fast as hell, and do consider the group rides their competition.

We'll do our best. Good luck catching fish. We'll miss you dearly.

Reminds me I need to get my fishing license.

Coach switched recently from the IRC Roadlites to the Pro Lights, he really likes them.

The funny thing is I texted him yesterday that I was having trouble getting them (to learn his source)!and he replied, "no problem, I have two extra and I can just send em to you and you can pay me replacement cost. But I'm out of town until Monday".

So I was actually all set but then I thought, "Why make him send me his and them have to order more for himself? Let me see if I can just find some online myself."

Bingo! Four tires in stock and I can actually get them before my race! Seemed too good to be true.

<Haha it was.>

Following this thread... you've got to be talking about universal cycles, right?

I would say a normal mower would be fine. But you bought a ryobi toy popcorn mower... so who knows.

Well, I doubt for everything they make. I'm sure there's lots of high end models just hanging around. But that timberjack seems to have sold out for all of 2017 production in less than a month. Although, they said they're going to make another run of Ti frames shortly... but that's back to being a high end model.

I would be very interested to see what they'd say if you called them and asked them what was up with no timberjacks, make more.

I suspect they haven't made a bike in that price range for quite a while, certainly not with that featureset, and they aren't making much money on it, and the lower end of any market is way bigger, etc...

It's interesting. The overall vibe in this group (who gave me my start) is that you should never make anyone else feel badly about their own abilities. So generally speaking, trying to be faster is not OK because you could drop someone and make them feel badly. It's ok to drop the rank newbies though, as long as you wait at the top of the hill. The only thing it's ok to aspire to is more distance and more climbing, they'll typically have a shorter route option for newbies. So the stronger people ride fairly slowly but go long.

Mostly. It's not exactly that cut and dried.

But no one is challenging me to make it up the hill first. I'm not challenge anyone either. The "competive" comments come from the knowledge that I race my bike ergo and the belief that the reason people race is out of insecurity- you're insecure about yourself so therefore are willing to push push push to try to prove something, even at the expense of making people feel badly. It's just weird.

The interesting thing is that some of these people ARE competitive. I hear more talk on these rides about people's relative speed than I do on the race-oriented rides. They think about it and worry about it. Just don't think it's ok to articulate it.

Most of these types tell me stories about being newbies and someone on a more traditional group ride in town being mean to them or looking down on them. It might have happened 5 years ago but they still bring it up.

This was excellent. I expected it to be Rapha commercial. Nice find. Rapha just opened a store down the street.

These are my roads, by the way. All those beautiful country roads are why I live in the southeast of town.
