I usually don't feel hungry either, but have (had?) a habit of random cravings for bowls of cereal and often gave in. Whatever you do during the day food and exercise-wise, it's all for naught when you pound 2 bowls of miniwheats at 10:30

I've just made a point of chugging a huge glass of water around that time of night. Makes me wake up a few hours later, but it also keeps me full.

Guys, it's time we have a candid thread discussion on when to eat.

Dan333SP 04-19-17 09:08 AM

Now.

Reminiscent of my feelings about my first (and only) cat. Got her in undergrad and she accompanied me through grad school, into my early career, and into marriage. Through thick and thin and lots of drama she was there for me. Can't ask for more than that.

(Well actually it would have been nice if she hadn't clawed the hell out of a very expensive couch.)

Dan333SP 04-19-17 09:59 AM

Cat claw covers are still going strong on our mini lions.

Despite that, they've managed to tear up the side of one of our new chairs. Not even sure how that's possible. The couch remains undamaged (for now).

Yeah but let's get real, the motorsports is the worst, right?

How can one not like a steam locomotive. I find them to be one of the busiest machines around, with steam popping out here and there, smoke, wheels turning, levers levering. All so cool how it looks so haphazard, yet in concert.

Then there's the noise.

I loved trains as a kid and recently found this book in a storage bin-

Ever since rediscovering my love for those things, I've been watching old documentaries about steam train operations and maintenance while falling asleep. Those things were incredibly labor-intensive but the beautiful simplicity of the concept is remarkable.

Must be awesome in person.

I can appreciate the passion, one of my brothers was (is) a big train fan. What I struggle with is how un-passionate *I* am. I'm like, WTF, so it's a train. :wtf:

Clearly, to each his own.

I like cars too. No accounting for taste, right.

I am a stereotype of the 1950s American child. I like cars, planes, trains, ships, spacecraft, bikes, cameras, ect.

That's what makes the world go 'round.

Imagine if we were all the same? Imagine if everyone was like Velo Vol. Or Rpen.

Yikes!

I still love them now. Seen a few steam locomotives in operation, including the Baldwin on the New Hope & Ivyland. I also took a ride out of Steamtown from Scranton to Moscow, PA during foliage season.

BTW...The author of that book died of a heart attack at age 48.

Just the other day I was wondering what I would have been like if *somehow* I was not indoctrinated into ballsports at an early age. I find it actually unimaginable, I can't remember ever not being interested in sports. It's like wondering who you would have been if you weren't born to your parents ... does not compute.

Yet somehow my son became a skateboards fanatic instead of sports (real sports). Clearly he was influenced by his peers who were skateboard fanatics and not appreciably athletic. He was affected by the diversity of childhood activities surrounding him, whereas I had little choice. In my neighborhood, childhood was about playing sports or playing with the girls. Period.

Heathpack 04-19-17 10:47 AM

I had these two hard TT workouts yesterday and today, got em both done and have been feeling great on that bike of late.

Now my legs are pleasantly sore- not painful sore, just the kind of sore you get when you've put in some good work.

Rest day tomorrow and then sail trip to the island for some mountain biking with one of my favorite people. :)

Deep thought- Why do people insist on filling a coffee cup and then stirring in cream? If you just pour a bit of cream into a cup and them pour the coffee in on top, it mixes without requiring a little stirring stick or spoon.

Good club ride today. Lotsa hills. Getting ready to head to NJ to be with my sister for her oncology appointment. Hoping for relatively good news.

As a coffee shop denizen, I've been watching people doctor their coffee and have decided it's a ritual type of act rather than a streamlined, logical thing. It's part of their experience, I guess.
