I am setting up a Netgear Arlo Pro (of course!) security camera system for our three unit townhome community. Not without some issues. The base station is hard wired to the router, so it can't be placed just anywhere. The distances to the furthest placed cameras are just a few feet too long to communicate with the base station. I will have to see whether my neighbor can host the base station in a place that has better and shorter "sight lines" to all the cameras. Good news is I don't think that will require any changes in the net setup. I am pretty sure the base station sets up its own network and just needs some access to the internet through anybody's router to communicate with our computers and mobile devices for monitoring. My neighbor is supposed to help later this evening. We will see if he can find a good place for the base station. Otherwise we are screwed.

I'm hot to do something like this, but damn that arlo stuff is expensive. Not sure I like wireless either. I could personally shut that down from far outside the range of the cameras, then go steal all your cameras with no trace. And at $190/ea that's not a terrible idea...

Even worse, look at this review:

Seems worse with the latest firmware update. I can litterally run to my mailbox, grab my mail, and come back inside without the camera's capturing me. This is a well documented, serious flaw that hasn't been fixed or even improved.

Hey man - I post MLM supplement offers and cat memes, too.

Nah, gotta know your audience. I think that I've got exactly two non-BF FB friends that would show any real interest in bike-weenie stuff.

Not that I spend much time on FB these days - it really has become a repository for kids pics for the benefit of the family.

Unless it rains. Then I will go scouting.

I imagine ya'll were on tenterhooks about this, now you can rest easy. ;)

There's that tenterhook word again. And I don't remember what it refers to

Have a couple stiff ones to pass the time.

So, another setback on my Gianni Motta. I'm installing the BB and as many of you oldsters know, there is a fixed cup and an adjustable cup which is adjusted with a pin spanner of which I own two. I get my campy one out and one of the pins is sheared off. OK, I get the other one out and it's missing a pin. So, do you think I could remove one of the pins and make a whole spanner? Of course not. Different thread sizes.

Needlenose pliers. You could even use a drift and a small hammer.

Not without aggravation, but surely the LBS has a drawer with some of those pins lying around in it. No? What a shame. It is such a simple tool with almost no performance requirements.

I'll be headed back to the bike shop tomorrow to rummage through their parts drawers. One of my tools, Sugino, is always losing the pins to the point that I quit using it and relied strictly on my Campy tool. I needed it to adjust the eccentric on my old Santana. I had to use the tool to remove the BB on my GM before sending it to the painter. Somehow since then, it had a pin shear off while in the tool box.

No biggie, just a pain in the tush.

It would be better, if we had a campfire and some s'mores.

Jill races on a Felt (some kind of team deal). Just before she went to nationals, we put a new (used) set of disc calipers on the rear wheels. Nice set of TRP Spyres that came from my parts bin. :D

I know my stories get better with age. My wife will interrupt me while telling a story and say, "That didn't really happen." and I whisper, "Shhh, I'm on a roll here."
