I'm not a bad ass. And the story really wasn't about me. It was, however, about certain realities that, unfortunately, exist in the world of selling motorcycles.

Probably you don't have any idea about such things.

I don't recall having the need for a weapon while selling a motorcycle, and I've sold 20 or so.

That was before Craigslist, though.

But, as I said, selling bicycles is a whole other matter. You sit down and have high tea with the spandexed. It's a whole other "culture"; another world.

Yeah. So what? I know those places (I'm from southern Cal originally). Sounds like you haven't sold a bike in eons. I'll leave it there, except to offer the following:

Well, ya got MC subcultures too. From selling a Ducati at the Starbucks to trading an old panhead for a buncha crank at the clubhouse. :)

So what are you doing with all your free time @LoP?

datlas 05-03-17 05:52 AM

Getting ready to ride. There is a little controversy brewing with my "Usual Suspects" Wednesday group ride. Some of the newer riders are race-oriented and tend to push the pace. My goal is to have fun but I don't mind pushing it a little. I typically try to set the pace to what's reasonable for the (relatively) weakest rider who shows up. In other words, I aim for a relatively civilized pace. One of the other guys (who is actually a strong rider but does not want to push the pace) gets annoyed when no "slow" riders show up and the pace is arguably a bit on the fast side.

There may end up being a schism, but what's the point of breaking a group ride into two when there are only ten riders??

+1

There are even subcultures within manufacturers. The potential buyer for a BMW S1000RR, for example, would have a completely different profile than that for a BMW K1600 GTL.

I'd like to see a bike frame made out of pure sodium.

PepeM 05-03-17 06:41 AM

I have sold three motorcycles on craigslist. None of the transactions required a gun. Maybe the other party felt otherwise.

My Sunday group had this schism too, although it's typically a bigger ride.

We tried splitting it, and the designated sweeper would hang with the slower folks and we'd try to all regroup at a store stop.

As these things tend to evolve, the slower people stopped coming because they didn't like making people wait or felt uncomfortable, so the ride is now basically just an A group with occasional waits for B+ riders.

I'd say the one guy who gets frustrated in your group should either make a point of contacting other slower friends to make sure they show up, or just not come.

You need to take it easy, pal. When you post like a jerkin this thread, disrupting the normal flow, someone is going to bring it to your attention. That's how it rolls in here. Addiction isn't a perfect fit for everybody.

Oh datlas if you have any interest I'm probably going to be in Malvern for Memorial Day weekend with my bike. Was planning on doing the usual loop through Valley Forge and onto the SRT, but I'd be interested in scoping some new areas if you are going to be around.

Anyway, it's been fun people. But, it is time for me to move on from this incestuous little convocation. Those that can do; those that can't waste away hours on internet fora--to paraphrase G.B.S. Billy is hammering me. Again. He's sort of had it out for me from the beginning for some curious reason. And, I just don't want to deal with another of his strange PMs (he thought I would be embarrassed if he had scolded me in public! Not!).

OK. You can pull the plug on me anytime you see fit, Bigdog. Ciao! I got riding to do.

I like the Paketa too, but I wish it didn't have a compact geometry frame. Would prefer a flat top tube.
