That's cool. Eli's 3-2 against him, so I guess that makes him even more awesome? Very cool.

Also, I literally just picked up a Schick last time I was at Costco, because I'm done paying Gillette.

I believe that is a full text link.

I haven't read it but this pub was the subject of our first hours lecture.

Well, that was an interesting read. Thanks for the link. It's certainly an interesting approach, treating NMD and NDD as homeostatic imbalances. I'm following some of the references, as well, now. I did some volunteer work back in high school with kids with Huntington's and Down's, and a little of my work deals with some of these issues as well.

Also, congrats BillyD!

Good ride. It's getting hot, will have to dig out my Halo from the drawer soon.

Anything happen in my absence?

Well, I ran 14 miles, so I'm at 54.5 for the week with a day to go. Think I'll be stupid enough to try for 60 tomorrow? Monday is rest, regardless.

Oh, and sniffles tried to hurt me with the Patriots because he can't talk any smack with his own team. :innocent:

You need Dollar Shave Club. Best quality. Best value.

I got tired of trying to keep the Halo at the right position on my forehead. Headsweat or the caps that were mentioned a few days ago work better anyway.

I may try that, but I have two Halos and they seem to work well for my purposes.

Cheapskate trick: you can kinda sharpen (or at least refresh) disposable razors using trick on YouTube. I went from replacing weekly to monthly.

I shave about once a week. No, I'm not doing subscription razors. The Costco pack of Schick had umpteen blades, which will last me over a year.

That said, IMO the ideal length for a ride is 65-90 miles. More than about 100 and it starts to hurt and/or become less fun.

The number is much lower for me. Even going slow, my heart is going nuts. After about 40-50 miles is no fun for me. Just too much time at redline to be enjoyable. Know thyself.

Trail's now open, but I haven't fixed my brake yet :(

Will go in a sec after F1 quali...

What is it with you guys dipping out on MTB rides all the time?? MTB-ing is supposed to be wet, slippery and cold. THAT'S why roadies go MTB-ing in winter. That's why there are MTB boots. That's why there are polypro or wool base layers. And mostly, that's why disc brakes were put on MTBs!!

Regular ride this morning. Got a flat. Replaced the tube (couldn't find what caused the damage. Upon inspection back home, the rim tape was pierced and the spoke poked a really small hole on the tube.) Pulled out my CO2 inflator, threaded the canister in and, of course, CO2 blowing all over the place. Went to grab another one (I always carry two) but it was nowhere to be found, who knows where I left it. No biggie, I always carry a mini pump too. Oops, not today.

The B group rolled by after a few minutes. I flagged them but they just waved back :D. Luckily a friend of mine (he's in the Uni's team, he races mountain bikes) recognized me and stopped to lend me his pump. After some pumping I was back on my feet (wheels?) and caught up with the B group.

I think now I understand why some people are apprehensive about group rides. That bunch was rowdy! So much shouting. 'Car back! car back! car back!' I get it mate, we're on a public road. Zero order too. Lots of 'fighting for position' and 'attacks' that gained like two bike lengths before being brought back by the barely perceptible acceleration of the pack. 'Car up!' Someone passes you on the right side. 'Left turn!' Same person is now dropping like a rock. Still good fun, mind, plus a few people commented that they like my bike. :)

I'll make sure not to forget my mini pump from now on.

You could have retorted that they are already carbon-steel wheels.

JDs are good. We have them at work... three functional Gators, and a small tractor with front bucket. You know a farmer is serious here when they have JD gear working their property.

That's the way to do it.

We are in the land of Canadia right now :D. First thing I did on landing at Vancouver Airport was withdraw $200 at the ATM. See later why such a small amount.

However, check your credit card provisions on exchange rates and charges. Ours are now charging a 3% fee on overseas transactions (including when purchasing on-line through eBay or UK bike shops),plus a $5 fee on cash withdrawals... in addition to the $3 fee charged by the ATM owner.

We have got around this to a large extent by doing transfers through a foreign exchange agency that charges $15 for a $2,000 transfer at an exchange rate better than the banks. The money goes into a bank account that Machka still has operating in Canada. Now we can just make withdrawals at no cost, and use her CC connected to the account.

I know that's not much use for your situation because you won't have a Spanish bank account. But be aware of those hidden cost that can bite the overseas tourist quite hard.

jtaylor996 06-10-17 01:12 PM

Ok, bike fixed. Apparently I didn't get the pistons reset quite all the way on the rear which caused the issue. I did reset them, and had no issue getting the new (much thicker) pads in, but I didn't get them flush on the caliper. Once we did that it came back to life.

Rowan 06-10-17 01:16 PM

And it's wonderful to be back in Canada, even if it's only for a month. Looking forward to doing some cycling, including a 200 randonnee on Vancouver Island, and a 100 on Canada Day.

We'll be renting a car on Monday to trundle around the Okanagan Valley looking at some employment opportunities some time in the next 18 months to two years, then popping across to Alberta to visit friends in Red Deer. I am really looking forward to Van Isle, though... we plan to drive up to Port Hardy right at the northern end, spend a night or so at Campbell River, which for some reason fascinates me, as well as doing the 200km ride.

That all depends on the soil type. We get clays around here, so MTB in the wet is simply not possible. It just cakes up like crazy and sticks to everything. If it's quite muddy around here you won't get 200 feet before you're walking back to the trail head.

It also ruins the trails really fast riding them wet. The mud sticks to your tires, and leaves a rut. The rut stays after the trail dries, and then next rain becomes a puddle and then the process of the trail being destroyed accelerates.

In loam or sandy stuff, no problem.

Here's a video they took of the trail on the other end of the lake today. Yeah, that's not going to be ridable for a week, at least:

I actually cut with it this morning. My yard is now a mess with me playing with the settings and experimenting with cut patterns dealing with a non zero radius turn. There's a learning curve., for sure. I'm going to have to get a $7 gauge and learn to level the blades, clearly. I might get the mulching kit, too. But by now I'm sure it's a good tool for the job, I just gotta tweak it a bit to get the best results.

f4rrest 06-10-17 01:20 PM

Doing nothing today.

This is uncomfortably weird.

And since y'all dissed the pic in my "messy" garage, here's one in it's natural habitat:
