Just randomly selected numbers.

I always assumed that it was a ZIP code, too, but never bothered to look it up.

True, but technically he's right. Both components in the composite are or started out as plastic. I'm fine with that. Besides, being plastics scientist, I kind of proud of the association.

I always thought it was his tax bill.

Might take that deal, eventually. Let me first figure out what I want to get, if anything.

This bike business is complicated.

Yeah. Who knew?

It depends on 1) what medical bills there are, and what can be negotiated on the lien;

2) fee agreement, in Florida the Supreme Court approved fee agreement is 40%, which is not atypical in many states;

3) expenses, experts, filing fees, depos, travel, etc,

4) whether the lawyer will negotiate the fee to settle the case.

Lets just assume: $5,000 in meds, $200 court costs, couple of depos (not transcribed so just appearance fees $300) other miscellaneous expenses $100.

Negotiate the lien to $2500, and the break down is: fees and expenses $8600; lien $ 2500, Plaintiff's take: $8900.

Higher or lower medical lien would affect it, reduced fee to close the deal would affect it, and more or less expenses would affect it.

But if there's a medical provider to be reimbursed, ( and you typically don't get 20K with no meds) my bet is below $10,000

My internal meter said ~$8-9 actually with unrealistic finger crossing being the 10-13. The twenty would be max insurance coverage payout, not max amount pursued - to extend beyond that via the JD help. To my understanding this is 'round one'?

I'm of the mind to hire a lawyer if it's a good case.

I just consulted with one before I settled up with Progressive on a 2 year old case. I'll give you his name for your friend if you want (assuming texas). One of my music buddies is the private lawyer for the Hunt family (and thus the KC chiefs and all of their other holdings), and he recommended this guy I talked with.

Basically, I didn't a have "a big case we could really sink our teeth into and go to town with" so he gave me some negotiating tips for free that netted me a little more out of Progressive.

If you talk to a good litigator, he'll let you know if it's a good case or not. I would not use any lawyer that could be classified as an "ambulance chaser" or even advertises at all.

Out of CT and already in progress. Reputable firm.

Well then the numbers could be worse. If you're saying that the claim is worth more than $20,000, but policy limits are $20,000, that tends to imply that are substantial medical bills.

Any lien from a medical provider has to be resolved first, and how willing the medical provider is to compromise depends in part on how strong liability is. (So ironically if your case is strong on liability, you have less leverage over the medical lien provider.

So the real wild card is how big are the medical bills, and what can the medical lien be settled for.

R.I.P. Charlie Murphy.

PepeM 04-12-17 12:55 PM

I should get back to proper training but I think I'll go do a group ride instead this afternoon. Will ride my iron bike. I think the wheels are aluminum but I am not 100% sure. Still, I am hoping no asplosions happen.

I know this isn't whom you are referring to, but I just couldn't help it.

At Boolavogue, as the sun was setting
O'er the bright May meadows of Shelmalier,
A rebel hand set the heather blazing
And brought the neighbours from far and near.
Then Father Murphy, from old Kilcormack,
Spurred up the rocks with a warning cry;
"Arm! Arm!" he cried, "For I've come to lead you,
For Ireland's freedom we fight or die."

He led us on against the coming soldiers,
And the cowardly Yeomen we put to flight;
'Twas at the Harrow the boys of Wexford
Showed Booky's Regiment how men could fight.
Look out for hirelings, King George of England,
Search ev'ry kingdom where breathes a slave,
For Father Murphy of the County Wexford
Sweeps o'er the land like a mighty wave.

We took Camolin and Enniscorthy,
And Wexford storming drove out our foes;
'Twas at Sliabh Coillte our pikes were reeking
With the crimson stream of the beaten Yeos.
At Tubberneering and Ballyellis
Full many a Hessian lay in his gore;
Ah, Father Murphy, had aid come over
The green flag floated from shore to shore!

At Vinegar Hill, o'er the pleasant Slaney,
Our heroes vainly stood back to back,
And the Yeos at Tullow took Father Murphy
And burned his body upon the rack.
God grant you glory, brave Father Murphy
And open heaven to all your men;
The cause that called you may call tomorrow
In another fight for the Green again.
