Hey @datlas,

Do you know doctors who are overly obsessed with their computer systems?

Today I was at the witch doctor's and when she first came in the exam room she went on an unsolicited rant on the system, much of which I didn't understand. But what I did pick up was (1) I'm set up different on the front desk system for prescriptions than I am on her system, (2) she said if "they" (not sure who she was talking about) made her switch systems, she would simply retire.

That seemed a bit extreme.

I see this with all my doctors. They are all now tied to the laptop. Some seem to accept it well, but many don't.

I don't know any physicians who like their electronic medical records (EMR) system.

They really generally suck and IMO end up being a distraction from talking and listening to the patient. I try to keep mine to the side whenever possible.

Shouldn't you be on your ride by now?

All of you are off work today, correct? Many businesses here were closed yesterday as well. In fact, many are closed for the full two weeks around Easter.

You'll be fine. Contemplative training is underrated.

Working here. I think in usa it's about 50/50.

Classic food movie is "Babette's Feast."

I have been off work for more than two weeks.

Also, she's still hung up on my bike riding. I mentioned inflammation in my knees (and other joints), because Hello, that's what I'm there to talk about, and she immediately launches into an inquiry if I was riding during the week and on the weekend. <GASP>

I say ride more. I recall when I was in my early 20's and doing actuarial work (before career change) I went to the doctor and mentioned that I was riding my bike 200-300 miles/week, and the doctor thought that was not healthy and possibly dangerous for me. I ignored that advice, obviously.

Non-cyclists don't seem to "get" cycling and think that riding 70 (gasp!) miles is like running a marathon, it may be in terms of calorie expenditures but certainly not that hard on the body, if you do it right.

It's been working for me the last few years. :innocent:

He's on C.D.S.T. or at least the same equivalent time zone as me. Cut him some slack, trouble maker.

I watched a couple food movies a year or so ago and for awhile, Netflix kept sending me food-related suggestions. Some were actually very tasty.

What, too much rain to work the corners with a cup and a sign?

Ah, so you too know how retirement works.

rpenmanparker 04-14-17 06:03 AM

I had lunch yesterday with a former colleague who just retired. He looked like a deer in the headlights. I tried to explain to him the importance of coming to terms with wealth distribution. After a whole life of wealth accumulation that is very difficult for many folks to do.

seedsbelize 04-14-17 06:03 AM

At my stage of life, actually for most of my life, working holidays are a nuisance which must be paid attention to and planned around. We lived VERY remotely, in Belize, and having Boxing Day following Christmas was a difficult thing to adjust to.

Slam-dancers need not apply.

If you'd like to distribute a diver's watch in my direction, I'm thinking that a black face/bezel would be the most versatile, I wouldn't require an explanation as to the importance of the act.

I used to wash windows at intersections but that was too much work. Now I just sit on corners looking forlorn.

You get paid more to just threaten to wash windows and then back off for a fee. Every retiree should know that.

I don't see why it wouldn't.
