Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wow. I just wasted an hour on the phone trying to fix a snafu between a hospital system and our health insurance. And got almost nowhere. Grr...

I went out for a flat, tooling around ride. Ran out of water, so when I stopped to get some, I got some Bolt chews too, since I now have to learn my way around the electrolyte game. They did me good.

The plan was to attempt a ride tonight, despite mega heat warnings, etc... but now it looks like I'll be stuck in the office all evening. Dangit.

So one of my friends rode from Chester County, PA to Cape May NJ today. 150 miles. I am impressed. His average speed was pretty good too, 19 mph.

Kudos to him, but would he have been faster if he had upgraded his wheels?

Wheels or tires??

I read recently that a tire upgrade is good for 0.5 MPH, easy.

I don't have data but it sure seems like I have to push harder since I put a Gatorskin tyre on one of my wheels. And I didn't think it would make a noticeable difference.

I did not ride today but I did some yard work. I will ride tomorrow with sore muscles only used when crouching. I will need to meditate on rule #5.

Snuck in a ride, but light rain most of the time. This was my first time wearing a cycling cap under my helmet in the rain, too - does a heck of a job of keeping rain out of the eyes.

Seriously.

But because I'm not cyclo-racist, I'll be riding my Propel with my retired racer group tomorrow and probably tandem tomorrow night.
