Went out for a short local off-road ride on the CX bike. Had to trespass across 30 feet of rough rocky terrain which was quite a challenge in my road shoes. I also noticed that I feel more secure riding on the grass hump between the gravel lanes than on the gravel (which feels loose and twitchy), is that normal??

Speaking of gravel rides, @RPK79 - are we doing the Filthy50? It's supposed to be really wet going in to the weekend and it's obviously going to be a pain in the ass to get to. I'm leaning towards passing on it, but could be convinced... maybe.

I find that I like hard dry dirt or well-cut grass the best. Longer grass is ok but may hide dangerous objects like big rocks or sticks. Hard-pack fine grit or gravel is also ok. Loose or fresh gravel really makes me feel like I am water-skiing and gives me the willies!!

...it's residing over at a secret location until I can get rid of a couple of bikes so my wife does not get more depressed because of my bicycle acquisition syndrome. I've really cut waaay back, but this was just too good to pass on.
It's painted in that old Carlton manner of a flamboyant green color coat over chrome, with the lugs left chrome.
Someone thought enough of it to outfit in in Campagnolo componentry, so I'm hoping it's a Flyer.
I've only ever had a couple of Carlton's, so I don't know that much about the different models. Here're a couple of photos of a '65 Catalina, which is a swell bike, but no Flyer.

If memory serves that was considered the second-best fluid trainer to the KKRM. This would be better if you can manage the drive:

I really prefer the road too. But isn't gravel the future of road cycling?

When I was growing up we had an outdoor clothes line. Very green! Sheets and stuff smell very nice dried that way. It has an interesting effect on jeans, though.
One time a wasp lodged inside one of my pants. That wasn't so good.
