Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Lol. I'm actually okay with that smell as it provides me with an incentive to GTFO before a migraine kicks in.

Therein lies the problem. The original issue was a slow checker.... I hate to say it, but I don't go straight to the nitrile gloves. I browse a tad just to see if there's anything I can't live without. Playing dodge-cart is another good game there. Using shopping carts as combo walkers/gear hauling, seems to be a thing. Controlling them is not a thing, however.

Oh stop. Technically this isn't gravel, it's hard-packed dirt that dried out and allowed the topmost to get blown away, leaving a smattering of small stones on the surface.

Should we rename it to BBSF?

Also, is it possible the BS has been here all along, but your tolerance is wearing thin??

To qualify as gravel, all the stones have to be touching other stones. Google it.

A smattering you say?

Go here:

Left click on the image. That will enlarge it and allow you to see that the road surface was mostly covered with small stones. I was actually fishtailing a bit going up hill.

A few miles back, on a different road, was hard pack with a smattering of small stones:

That's the whole point of gravel - the varying size and shape of the aggregate is to allow it to compress and lock together firmly so that it's stable. Your pic is more decorative landscaping stone than anything and wouldn't provide much of a foundation without adding a mix of smaller stones and stone dust.

Here in Minnesota we used crushed limestone rock for gravel roads. When freshly graded they are large rocks and are garbage for riding on, but as the cars use the road they crush the rock and it becomes more condensed down.
