Just got an invite to tour the project that will extend the Long Island Railroad to a new passenger terminal being built underneath Grand Central Terminal. Tres cool.

I've never been to RVA. I watched that (rerun) 60 Minutes segment on the avenue where they have Confederate monuments. Is that a good street for riding?

This is cool. A good friend of mine is working for Virginia's passenger rail department and gets to go tour new stations and other rail-related locations all the time, he sent me a bunch of photos from Amtrak's Beech Grove shops a couple weeks ago. I also watched a docu on the building of Grand Central recently, incredible to see how they moved a massive rail yard underground over 100 years ago.

It is a nice wide road with a big shoulder so it would be decent for riding, but it's cobbled up and down the length where they have statues so I usually avoid it. Zwift tastefully turned the Confederate "heroes" into cyclists on rearing bicycles when they recreated the course in-game.

I haven't met to many pure-bred pit bulls. Some of the mixes I've come across I'd be reluctant to get close enough for them to even sniff my hand. The few corgi's I've met have all been very nice dogs. Jack Russell Terrorists are always a pig in a poke: will this yapplet be friendly or will it try and bite everyone.

Yesterday I was riding and saw a black object on the road. I had a flash that maybe it was my bar plug, but I didn't bother turning around. Today I passed the same spot but went a bit slower. Lo and behold, it actually was my bar plug, in perfect condition after apparently sitting in that exact spot for a week. Grabbed it, removed the electrical tape and cork, and we're back to normal. Felt like a little victory.
Similar story about 6 weeks ago, coming back from a ride saw this neat flashing red light on the other side of the road. Stopped to pick up the "free" light. Turned out it was mine that had dropped of on my outbound leg. Couldn't believe no one hadn't picked up by then.

Hi All
Thanks for your expressions of goodwill here and in the 50 Plus thread that Machka started. I am not well enough to start cycling outdoors for quite a while (let alone return to work), although stationary cycling is possible (and a major thought for me). I also have a suspect right shoulder/arm, and suspect left leg and foot that may be spine related. And some issues relate to some brain injury that had me close to dying for a little over three weeks early on.
The most important things are that I am still alive, my State has a vital requirement for employee insurance that covers what happened and my continued care, and I am married to a woman (Machka) who has shown me a truly extraordinary level of love and dedication. I am also being care supervised at home on week days by a woman who also is excellent in her method and realities.
If anything is totally worthwhile in Bike Forums, it is the revelation of what some posters or their partners experienced close to dying, and their recovery to continue living rewarding lives. I am truly grateful for all those.
Catch you all later again.
Rowan.

I have observed items on the rosdsnainride stay there for years...many years. Of course that's if they are lodged in a joint in the concrete. One was a huge bolt st the top of an overpass. A friend and I passed it and laughed about it for about 10 years. Another isba golf ball near the Herman Park Golf Course in a joint in the concrete at a signal light. Been watching that for so long I can’t tell you. Nothing that belongs to me.

Today's random story... I was riding a week ago and when I got home, I noticed one of my bar end plugs had popped out and the tape had unraveled a bit. I tightened it up, stuck a wine cork in the bar, cut it down a bit, and wrapped the whole thing in electrical tape. Not very elegant, but it worked.
It really disgusts me that partisan politics holds up or kills badly needed projects. The current Hudson tube is in bad shape, thanks in part to age and also Super Storm Sandy. If it has to be shut down before a new one is built it would cause massive problems. And note that it's not a question of if it will have to be closed. It's a question of how soon.

If you ever want to mindlessly watch something somewhat interesting, there's a video of a good portion of the northeast rail corridor taken from the back of an Amtrak train-

when he tapped my feet to see if I was alive, he said I didn’t move. He said they were about to call the police, and then I got up and tried to get back on my bike. Thankfully they stopped me from riding home. He went home to get his truck, while his wife stayed with me. They took me to the marina where I lived, and night security immediately called NPS when they saw my condition. NPS called for a life-flight because they feared I had a spinal injury.
They were right, and that blinky probably saved my life.
