Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

One of my club mates is in Colombia and rode up the Alta de Letras.

I don’t know if that’s admirable or just crazy.

A long climb, but it doesn't appear you have to be a top-tier athlete to do it.

I remember when they used to call that an Alberta clipper. It happened all the time when I was a kid and no one made a big deal about it.
of course, I remember when a happy ending was a way to describe a Disney movie.

I disagree. Two different things.

The one I linked is a defined pressure/wind event. An Alberta clipper is a mish-mash of stuff with no definitive description.

Alberta-clipper (also known as a Canadian Clipper) is a fast moving low pressure areaweather system which generally affects the central provinces of Canada, as well as parts of the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes, and Northeastern United States regions, precipitating a sudden temperature drop and sharp winds.[1] Alberta clippers take their name from Alberta, the province from which they appear to descend, and from clipper ships of the 19th century, one of the fastest ships of that time.[2]

I can't tell the difference but I will defer to your judgment.

Second no nap ride in a row. I've determined that it is not the recovery hard boiled eggs, but rather the bananas eaten during the ride. One of the many tips from my warm showers guest. It's a keeper. Turns out a banana has almost the exact same carbohydrate and caloric value as an energy gel, with the added bonus of non-soluble fiber and some minerals tossed in.

Yeah, we're looking at another 6"+ overnight and 25-35 mph winds, gusts to 50. This whole shoveling thing is starting to get old.

Of rain? That's more than we got today. Still, lots of water. I went on a walking tour of the disaster area. Could go on a chunk of my normal route. A 15-foot section of sidewalk got washed away. Saw a 4-ish foot sinkhole by the Catholic high school.

People were kayaking across this five lane road. #DisasterArea
