Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ouch. I hope he has a witch doctor that can help him manage it.

Sorry. It sounds terrible. I just looked it up. I have RA and it's not anywhere near as bad, as that sounds.

Oh, man. Poor guy. I bet you’d trade joints with him without thinking about it.

Yep, When he was just a little tyke, he complained of back and hip pain and he always walked stilted and stiff-like. He complained of pain for a long time but it took till 2-3 years ago for the docs to figure it out. It’s seemed to progress fairly rapidly. Very sad.

In carbon, you can order direct from someplace like Light Bicycles and get a moderate depth (~40-60mm) and reasonably light wheelset for well under $1k, but you will have to wait a few weeks. Otherwise, you'll have to look for deals on wheelsets from better-known manufacturers (Reynolds, Fulcrum/Campy, etc), particularly from UK sites, but sometimes from others like Competitive.
Just to drop the HED option:

Thanks, guys!

Naive question: I assume the difference between 12 and 15 mm on the front axle is about more than knocking out or not using a couple of shims, correct? My fork is 15.

This is your day, Doug! Be sure to squeeze it for all it is worth. If I were you, I would make the bridge (as the French day) to the weekend and celebrate all the way through Sunday. Who is to say otherwise?

Usually the wheels will come with different end caps (12mm, 15mm, QR) for the hub, although they sometimes need to be purchased separately.

Anyone see the record-setting performance on "Jeopardy!" last night? Dude won $110K in one game, shattering the old record of $77K. I missed it, but I did see him a couple of days ago. He's incredibly fast with the signaling button and extremely knowledgeable. He is also calm and collected. Could be around for a long time. He's a professional sports bettor, so it's not as if he has a day job he needs to get back to.

Reminds me. I once had a room mate who was a professional at the track. I wonder what he's doing now?

My dad got pickpocketed for around $8K at a track in FL. He's been dead since '96.
