Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Reasonable choice for a direct drive trainer. Let us know how you like it. I wanted a smart trainer but (as you know by now) I am always on a budget so I got a KICKR Snap, which I figured was one of the best entry-level smart trainers.

Definite dependency potential. It is "speed," after all.

Had a good club ride this morning, now waiting for Indian lunch. I am the only non-Indian person in the place, so I figure that means the food will be authentic.

Yeah, I'm planning to try to work 1/2 time, or thereabouts, in order to keep my brain active. Problem is my lack of marketable skills.

I did that for a few years until I resented the time restraints being placed on my retirement. It’s funny how I thought I needed to continue to stay in the loop until I decided my new loop was doing what I wanted. I think we let our jobs/careers define ourselves and it’s hard to break free. Anyway, it took me a good 4 years to divorce myself from my work and another 2 years to give up a charity job but I finally got over it.

A few years sounds right. It will take me at least that long to figure out how to live without working.
