Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

it’s fine actually. What you posted was not quite a spoiler, but if taken further it could lead to some.

I edited my quote for consistency.

Speaking of podiums, Tiger is leading the Masters. Whoops? Is that a spoiler? Nah. Nobody would go back and look at a golf match from the beginning...would they?

Dumb PC question of the day:

Our PC is a little old but still works ok. But it often gets VERY slow. Painfully slow. Even when not many applications running. I did the usual cleanups (CC Cleaner, anti-malware etc).

I notice that in Task Manager, typically the CPU is "only" at 25%, the Memory is only 50%...but "Disc" is at 99% or 100%. I imagine that is what is slowing everything down. But we have PLENTY of free space left on the hard drive so I don't really understand if and/or why this is making everything slow.

Suggestions??

Do you leave it running for days at a time? Mine is fairly new but built with an old type chip. It also slows down. Rebooting always fixes it. I just try to keep everything that is open saved up to date. When I sense a slow down, I just power off at the on-off switch and then turn it right back on. Comes back in good shape. Alternatively rebooting when there is no problem every 12 hours or so avoids the problem.

I can give that a shot. We generally keep it running.

Here spring is past the point of no return. My magnolia is blooming, the pear tree is only a couple days away and the tulips are maybe 4 or 5 days away. I would hate to lose the pear tree blossoms.

The only thing that I've seen blowing around here is the Dogwood. Our ornamental trees are still a few weeks away yet. Haven't seen any flowers yet.

If that works, see what's running in the background. My laptop and HTPC stay up more or less forever - they basically reboot for updates and don't slow down for the weeks in between. You might have a "helper" app or six sitting in the background taking up resources and snooping on you, like WeatherBug I think it was.

I did some shooting this morning.

The reason I don't do that is that necessary upgrades occur overnight. Computer needs to be on.

Crazy storm front came through at 3:30 a.m. It went from not raining to I can't see across the street in about 30 seconds.

You know how much I like the cold weather. I might move to Minnesota in the future, maybe ride with WhyFi.

Seems Duluth is considered an ideal city for future growth and all. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/15/c...gtype=Homepage

Now all I gotta do is talk my better half, who is always cold, into moving somewhere colder.

I turn my computer off overnight. I don't allow automatic upgrades, I want to know in advance what I'm downloading onto my machine. Plus, all sorts of nefarious types move around freely on the interwebz at night looking for opportunities.

Still raining. Winter salt should be gone by now. The seasonal roads re-open today.

*gulp* I cannot find my 2018 tax returns and payment slips wither at home or at work. Hope I didn't accidentally toss them.
