At the time I hit my then-max of 193 (in my 40s), I could hold 185 for some period and had hit 188 for several seconds. When I hit my max, I'd been accelerating as part of a club ride closing in on the finishing sprint, and went off too early. I accelerated uphill, then got out of the saddle and sprinted for all I was worth and suddenly my body said that was it, that's all I had. Done. And when I say "suddenly", I mean suddenly, as in *BANG* "That's all!"
You know that 'shattered' feeling you get from a really exhausting workout? That was me the rest of the day. So I figured that was probably my maximum.

I've tried joining a gym and doing weights. I just end up subsidising all the people who actually go to the gym. now my workout of choice has become tramping (hiking). Nothing like carrying a 7 - 16kg pack up and down hills most of the day to get you fit. It's even better when you try and keep up with old fit guys who's only hobby is tramping and they do it every weekend.

I just wish I could go to the gym. Our local gym is open, but I’d basically have to be nuts to spend time there.

I haven't been to a bar/restaurant since the first week of the NFL playoffs. It was our fantasy football postseason gathering, and I had to accept the crown.

Speaking of which, can someone become claustrophobic later in life? I used to quite bit of cave diving, not the extreme fresh water cave diving type, but well explored, salt water caves. They were still full of tight spots where one needed to pull ones self regularly scraping the tank to the walls and I was always OK with it.
Several years back I was reading a novel in which the main character is a digger/miner in WWI (Songbird ‘Birdsong’ iirc) and could hardly finish some of the underground chapters and ever since have trouble with tight spaces to the level that worries me .

Sure seems like you can, and did.

I have a lifetime of bad back stories. I see a chiropractor about once a month but I have also learned to deal with it on my own. The two things that help the most are to maintain a straight back when lifting anything just as a straight back is best for riding the bike. The second thing is exercises to strengthen core muscles.

As I mentioned above, my daughter and I dove a series of freshwater caves in Florida when she was collecting specialty dives for Divemaster. They were roped, but pretty tight, very dark, and very cold. I feel no need to go back.
