Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Benotto Mexico has a new mtb like yours. It costs a little over $1000. Remembering that luxury items are much more expensive here, than there. You might find a great deal on a bike, and by the time you get it down here, well, it's no longer such a great deal. Used bikes....I don't know if they're getting their asking prices, but they are through the roof!

He's ok. Ok is good enough on a rookie contract. It's death for $40mn/year - the Vikings (who we beat in the wildcard round...) are the ceiling.

That ceiling is better than the Giants for the past decade though, so there's that.

Or you could just look up, from time-to-time, on your walks.

I do. I see plenty of crows () and various smaller birds.

they’re still around. they live just south of telegraph hill lately, and they are somewhat scary and loud AF. i hear them most days from my office. makes me think of my mom’s fear of birds, the movie the birds, etc.

In my case, I find them within a half or quarter mile of the Illinois River in fast food parking lots. They're great scavengers.

All I have to do is throw a french fry from McDonalds up in the air. It's like a mating call.

This ... precisely! Gulls etc. have been a constant in my life: grew up on Vancouver Island; now living in the Great Lakes region, with our summer location on the Bay of Fundy. For what it's worth, on the Island we referred to them somewhat-affectionately as 'sh*t-hawks.'

Got in the trainer to ride this AM and got about 6 minutes in before feeling like hot garbage and giving up. Went inside and started working a bit early and threw up about 15 minutes after. I’ve had a sore throat / allergies the past few days and I think I had a lot of okay nasal drip in my gut that caused it.

it’s been a hellish two weeks. I interviewed 25 candidates for a couple of positions I have open and had one of my good people resign. Feels like we’re in a constant hiring cycle with people chasing after money. I think they may find out that some of the QoL differences between other employers and here make this a far better place to work, but maybe that’s just me.

It was cold and windy. Got snarled at by a raccoon. My feelings got hurt. Then I rode through a recently sprayed area by a skunk. Can still taste it, but all of that was just peachy. The 20 knot direct headwind for the last 3 miles to my house sucked. I kept explaining to every car that passed me, “No, I’m not this slow, I am doing zone 2 training, trying to recover from yesterday l, but this head wind is really killing me”. I don’t think the cars could hear me.

Messed around with the new madone a little this morning. It is identical to my emonda. Frame that is, Fork is a little different. Frame geometry is the same.

Oh, and I got to ride with my coach and a team mate yesterday. The woman is 4 time state champion.

Anyways we were doing long threshold intervals. I show up with El diablo, and they pull TT bikes out. SMH. The Pain was real. FTP increased another 6 points. If I can keep this up i’ll break 300 this year.
