Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'll admit that is one of the better college songs. It may be better than the classic Hail to Pitt.

To determine which is the high limit screw, shift into the low ring so the shifters are all the way down. The cable should be somewhat slack. Next, while watching the cage VERY CLOSELY, tighten one of the screws. Whichever one causes the cage to move outward is the LOW limit screw. The other one is the HIGH limit screw. Remember to return the Low limit screw to the original adjustment (assuming it was adjusted properly and you never drop your chain onto the BB).

Also, based on the history of Supercars, reliability, fit and finish, useablity etc. are not factors to be considered. Exclusivity and price are about it. The much-beloved supercars of the past, the ones that adolescent boys have posters of on the walls? A lot of them were crap.

But you can buy a Ferrari 360 for the same price. And am aware of the crappiness.

Yep. And then when it breaks you pay Ferrari prices to fix it. I saw a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow on FB Marketplace. Looked to be in good condition. Only $20,000. I can only imagine what the parts go for.....

It reminds me of a commercial I saw, way back in the 70s, for Midas Muffler, which had started carrying mufflers for a range of imported cars. There's a "European" looking guy, with a pencil moustache, wearing an immaculate white lab coat and carrying a clipboard. Behind him is a stereotypical "European" looking mechanic holding an old muffler. The first guy says, "Six weeks! Gonna cost you two hundred dollah! And you gotta leave-a da car!"

Mr. Mustache is right, as long as the screws can actually move the cage when you adjust them. You might have to give yourself some slack with the barrel adjuster and move the cage by hand when doing the outboard limit.

Thanks.

I would just take it to the LBS, but my mechanic had surgery and they are short a man and slammed. They bent over backwards to get the bars, new cables and tape installed, and I accidentally rushed them, so the FD rubbing is my fault. I don’t want to bother them with it, besides I should be able to figure this out. I push buttons for a living.

You should indeed be able to figure this out. If you get in close enough, you can see the stop and thus know which adjuster you're looking at
