Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I prefer to leave it this way. Makes for a subtler joke.

Oh, damn. I just replaced the brake pads on my gravel bike. I didn't know that I was supposed to just get a new bike. I feel dumb.

Just do what I do - don't replace, just add another to the stable!

When I wore out the headset on the Ritchey, I got two new bikes (Bianchi and Battaglin)

Then I replaced the headset on the Ritchey.

The Ukrainian wrench at the previous iteration of my LBS was famous for saying, for just about any small mechanical problem, "You nidd nyew bah-eek." He's the same guy who turned me on to other bar tapes than the Cinelli I'd always used. "Cinelli ees sheet."

Speaking of profanity, I have noticed that the current crop of young professional cyclists are total potty mouths when being interviewed after races like the recent TDF. They are dropping F bombs and similar left and right when describing the race.

I approve.

Especially cute when the girls do it.

However, I will note that Fs and the like are much more acceptable in European societies than they are here or even in the UK. Son in law spoke almost perfect English when we first met him, but we had to tell him to clean it up a bit for US sensibilities.

One of Dad's cousins, when my siblings and I were fondly remembering our Mom's potty mouth, said, "I can't believe Peg would talk like that! She was such a lady!" IMO, those two things are not contradictory.

I think judicious use of profanity is fine. There is a BIG difference between saying "that was a great **** ing race" and "**** you." But the filter gets rid of both uses because it's stupid and a blunt instrument.

So it's okay to curse at a judge? Oh, wait! That's JUDICIAL use of profanity. That's very different, then!
Nevermind.

The "price" will be that your mechanic will need to disconnect brake lines and shifter cables (if so equipped) and then reinstall them.
So if you already have electric brakes and shifting, you're good to go.
