Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Interesting. Some things are like that.

From our perspective, she likes the pain better than the Hakka MX, the fit is better than the Aspero... and it's more Cervelo than the Aspero, too.

Very hot water is your friend. As hot as you can stand it, and as you get accustomed to the heat, increase it. This will stop the itch for up to four hours. Or give your money to BigPharma

Our physician advisor recommended this back in my Fire/Medic days. Yes, it does "just" emulsify the Urushiol (poison oak oil), but my memory says that Urushiol can migrate and the rash reaction appears when it comes back to the surface of the skin. Tecnu will emulsify it so it can be washed away with water.

My memory says that it is very effective both at preventing the rash associated with poison oak and at symptom relief once the rash appears. We carried it on our wildland fire engine as well as on the ambulance.

I rarely see train cargo these days. Anything being shipped is hidden in box cars or tankers.

Some people don't react to it. When I was a kid I got poison oak all over more than once. I reacted less and less as I got older until I trudged through a bunch of it and it wrapped around my lower legs. Got a case of it that time but nothing like when I was younger.

My buddy has one, great bike. Sometimes wish I’d bought an Exploro vs Aspero

this has worked for me - but probably not a good option for many

and gotta watch it - can actually get mild skin burn if the water is too hot - and the initial pain can be significant when a large patch is hit with very hot water ... more pain than many can/will tolerate .. and blood pressure can drop ...

I get poison ivy often - it’s all over our property

one time when I was clearing a large patch of heavy brush got it so bad needed a trip to doctor office ... (the ‘hairy’ vines got me) ... got a shot (and maybe something else cannot recall) ...

might be ‘hypersensitive’ now - not sure

It would be hard to transport stuff that is transported in a tanker without using a tanker. Always has been.

I got PI every year for the last 15 years. I don’t fool around with all the soaps, ointments and creams, they don’t work for me. I go straight to prednisone. I picked up a couple of suspect bumps on my wrist just recently, soon as they confirm themselves it’s off to the urgent care I go.

I do get some irritation, especially at the start of the summer and when I don't wash off for several hours afterward. But I HTFU and carry on.

I see open-air cars but they're almost always empty.

Getting a late start today. Down to 100 degrees today. Mrs. John's brother lives in Georgia and he's been getting torrential rain for some time.

I'd better get ready to ride.

I've read and experienced that accumulated exposure can lead one who is initially not sensitive to becoming very sensitive to poison ivy and similar plants. I use to be able to hand pull out of my yard. Now it seems that if just look at poison ivy, I'll break out over multiple places even where not exposed.

This appears to be a mild case of small bumps which have stayed the same since I noticed them. At first I thought they were scratches. If it gets worse I'll go to urgent care for the steroids. 6 5 4 3 2 1

A guy I used to work with tended to get severe reactions to Poison Oak (same toxin, Urushiol). One time he'd gone for a hike and apparently hadn't noticed it. Came home, felt a little itch on his upper arm, and decided to rinse off what he figured was some sap or something. The water ran down his side and soaked into the waistband of his undies. The next day, he had a rash all down his side, and in a nice little line where the top of his undies sat. He ended up on prednisone for that.

Years later, I was hiking with The Older Boy, who was about 8 at the time. I noticed the sun was getting low on the horizon (it was a warm day in December) so instead of heading back the way we came, I decided to bushwack back to the main trail. I was aware there was Poison Oak along the trail so as soon as we got home, we both stripped off our clothes and threw them in the washer, and we each took a shower. No problem! Not till 8 days later, when TOB started developing a rash all over, and I got it on my lower legs. Seems we'd tossed the clothes in the washer alright, and Mrs. GJ had run the washer. BUT nobody'd added detergent. So, all we did was to spread the Urushiol around. Poor TOB was on prednisone and spent a lot of time soaking in oatmeal baths. Even his face was swollen.
