Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Got a new/ modified set of exercises yesterday. Great (feeling) run up along some foothills trails this morning, Got slightly lost. Work is stupid. Running is much better.

I have intentions to hit the Montrose ride tomorrow. I should be home by 11, with 40+ miles and some serious intensity in my legs.

Ouch. So hurtful.

FWIW, I haven't changed my weight on Connect in a few months and my FTP hasn't bumped (more than a watt or three) in a few weeks, so it does make me wonder where they're getting the increase. Maybe it also includes respiration data?

I can't figure it out either. Gotta be something to do with power*time/HR, right (?), but it tracks more or less with the intervals.icu estimate and tells me I'm awesome, so it's correct.

I have had a rule, for the last few decades. Never drive to a ride start, unless it's an organized ride. I broke that rule last winter, riding with Bob. Not since. A purist thing, that's outdated, but habitual nometheless

Does Intervals provide a VO2 Max estimate? I haven't seen it. Anywho, my Intervals FTP is about 20w higher than my Garmin Connect calculation. I'd love to just go with Intervals and pat myself on the back, but I'm guessing that Connect is closer and I just have a big swingin' W', but who knows?

I was in the second best shape of my life in my fifties. Belizean rainforest life. I felt like was aging backwards. Best shape of my life in my thirties, my running years.

Same age as my little sister, may she rest in peace. My wife and I babysat her and my little brother when we were in high school and had to change their diapers. I’m not changing yours.

It's on the power page near the bottom of the season comparison, to the right of the power curves. I don't have a Garmin bike computer, so no Connect FTP estimate.

Ahhhh. Well, it's 3.6 lower than Garmin, so Garmin is obviously the correctest.

That is curious, though - Intervals has the higher FTP but lower VO2max (same weight for both profiles).

Whereas I still want a moat and a curtain wall...

Actually I wish I could apply to live in a retirement development.

3 groups, actually. The main/fast group starts at 8:00. There are also groups at 7:45 and 7:30, with short and long versions for all 3 groups. I've done the 7:45 long version a couple of times recently. It was a stretch, but I hung on with the front guys. My intent for tomorrow is 8:00 short. It will be a bigger group with more places to hide. I expect to get spit out the back of the group in the hills near the finish, but the intensity will be good for me.

You can live in an assisted or independent living facility. Age is not a prerequisite. Drooling might be.

Mrs John would love a moat and a wall. I have thought about trying to get a rental in a retirement community but where we are isn't bad most of the time. It's better since the loud neighbor has been quieter.

My older sister lived in a 55+ community with her late husband and she hated it. It was a huge, upscale place with loads of amenities. She said many of the other women were nosey busybodies and the old men would creep her out. She sold her place and moved out after her husband passed.

The finish is in Sierra Madre (Sierra Madre Blvd. & Baldwin). Not sure about Will. He hasn't done that ride in a while.
