Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We only care about recent history in this instance.

Affluent people tend to have fewer children. Also, the longer you put off marriage, the fewer the children. Also, without 50% infant mortality, you don't need to have 4 kids to end up with 2. Also, effective contraception, more under the control of the women.

Truth. I'm pretty sure my mouse drug (Remicade) is going kaput, as all the previous ones that where somewhat effective eventually did.

When I was atmosphere in "Just One of the Guys" (sorry, not free on Youtube), I wore red socks and wingtips to my tux fitting. The young lady in wardrobe taking my measurements was duly impressed.

I have a 200k on the weekend so thought riding my much neglected bike last night would be a nice idea. 12 miles later, gee, front derailleur (6800) is kinda stiff, wonder if the cable is about to break?
Tonight I put in a new cable without much fuss. Old cable looked fine. Won't shift. Routed wrong at shifter. Gah. Managed to reinstall which surprised me quite a lot. All hooked up and shifting fine.

Just as stiff as last night though.

Yup, I know all of this. Of course, nothing changes the fact of how absurd it is to have commentary about the declining birthrate after the Boom, as if the Boom was named that because it was the normal and after that people invented having fewer kids. It has been going on for over a century.
