Do recall that the Baby Boom was called such because it was higher than previous normal, of course. Birth rates had been declining steadily for a long time prior. The current decline is just back on trend. That chart is misleading crap.

I have a 200k on the weekend so thought riding my much neglected bike last night would be a nice idea. 12 miles later, gee, front derailleur (6800) is kinda stiff, wonder if the cable is about to break?
Tonight I put in a new cable without much fuss. Old cable looked fine. Won't shift. Routed wrong at shifter. Gah. Managed to reinstall which surprised me quite a lot. All hooked up and shifting fine.
Just as stiff as last night though.

Yup, I know all of this. Of course, nothing changes the fact of how absurd it is to have commentary about the declining birthrate after the Boom, as if the Boom was named that because it was the normal and after that people invented having fewer kids. It has been going on for over a century.
