Without looking (LesterOfPuppets ineligible) do you think Shimano stock price is higher of lower than it was two years ago?

For what size tire - 25mm? Hookless doesn't work with ye olde tyre specs; 25mm tires were the new 23mm tires several years ago. 28mm tires are pretty much the starting point for modern set-ups. For a bigger guy/gal, 30mm is probably the starting point.
In terms of rims, 19mm ID was wide a dozen years ago, standard by most tire manufacturers 5 to 7 years ago, and is a bit quaint, today. 19mm in hookless seems like an anachronism, while ~23mm is probably the most likely entry point.

I'm in no danger of trying this, BTW - I can't justify dropping the coin for a set of carbon rims in the foreseeable future. The one disc brake bike I have already has 2 wheelsets.

Record string of 110F degrees in Phoenix was finally ended yesterday. LesterOfPuppets be sure to put on a jacket or arm warmers or something before venturing out today.

Sure, I get it - I'm just sayin'. "I'm too fat for hookless," is a common refrain, but that's often only when looked at through the lens of previous standards. You've gotta be a pretty big fella for it to not work for you within the framework that's common right now. There's a reason that a lot of new bikes, even the raciest of the racy, can accommodate measured widths of 32-34mm. 30mm tires on 25mm IW rims would not at all be uncommon and, at those specs, someone at 240lbs would still be under 70psi.

Shimano surely got hammered during covid and are still feeling it. No one could get enough parts and MicroShift really got their foot in the door in the OEM realm, even creeping up into mid-range MTB builds.

Nice bonus on T bills is no state income tax. My friend is trying to get me to buy some corporate bonds to lock into current high interest rates but I am risk adverse, so no. I still have most of my retirement savings (401k, IRA) in the market so playing it safe with the rest. For now.

It's funny, because I remember the line at the time was "they're super smart to not respond to a temporary bike boom and get overextended". Worked out great.

We might be sliding back into buying stocks. We have an advisor now, visiting for a couple months. I still have my old Ameritrade account I opened back in the early oughts. Carrying a balance of $1.92.

Brrr! That's about what we saw at the end of our ride today but there was enough humidity to make it sweaty. We rode out to the boonies and there were clouds and we sat at a park for a while and none of us wanted to leave.

No ride today. I decided I needed to be off the saddle but it also works out to ride tomorrow and Saturday without a break bigger than 2 days. I took advantage of the time to clear a fallen tree that came down while I was in an undisclosed location last week. I have everything disposed of except the 20 foot trunk that was de-limbed by me. I will need to fire up the (awesome) chainsaw to haul it away in appropriate sized pieces.
I have no comment on the subject matter being addressed on the floor.
