Got home around 10. Told my wife I wanted to take a nap and she looked at me like I was crazy. She didn’t like my response to that. Anyways, hour later I feel better now itching for a ride.

Slow morning. Must be Saturday. Loud music beginning in the wee hours and ending at 0530, a half hour later than the prescribed cut off time. A nasty excuse for music that the broadcaster felt the whole town needed to hear. It's a Latin American thing. Ultimately the speakers get blown and thereafter it's a fuzzier listen

I've never felt the need to own a cape.
In cycling news I am contemplating the purchase of an 11 speed cassette so I have a spare. Years ago, pre-pandemic, i bought a mavic open pro wheel that had an ultegra hub. It has a spacer that, when taken out, allows for an 11 speed cassette. It now has a 9 speed. I think i did this in 2017 or 2018 when i was forecasting a replacement of my old 2003 model bike. I think it has 5,000 miles or less.
I was going buy one on line and start a thread to see if I got a good deal. I hear that's how you do it.
Subject wheel wth worn out tire. Only tire it ever had, hence the 5,000 mile estimate.
edit: I bought it 6/23/2018

We have that here in our predominately Latin American neighborhood. Live bands, DJs, and sometimes just obnoxiously loud crap from a car with sub-woofers and thousands of dollars worth of amps.
Yesterday the next door neighbor parked his car adjacent to our living room wall and proceeded to shake our house with his crap for a while. Both of us got a headache but it didn't go on very long. The last time I tried to talk to him about it he was drunk and told me I was disrespecting him.

My friend, Bob, from Maine, is offering to bring me a NOS 2021 GT Avalanche Comp. Given to him in exchange for some favors he refused to take money for.

Quite a leap forward for this old coot. Do any of you see anything I won't be able to manage? I am happy to report a cartridge square taper bb. Are disc wheels through axle by definition? My two concerns are hydraulic disc brakes(rather than mechanical) and internally routed cables. And, of course, any other new tech I am as yet unaware of. It comes with 27.5 wheels.

Definitely lean on the crankbolts, at DSG we had a spate of GT Aggressor Pros and a couple Avalanche Pros come out of the box with not quite tight crankbolts.
Gonna have some hydraulic brakes there, but you probably won't have to worry about those for a few years with the flatland riding you do.

These just have a short run from the top of the downtube to the bottom of the downtube.
If you decide to change both RD cable AND housing, for instance,
1. Undo the anchor bolt. Cut the squished end of the cable.
2. Pop off those seatstay cable guides.
3. Pull the housing off the cable. Make sure the cable stays in the shifter (sometimes tomfoolery will allow the cable end to pop out of its home and...bad stuff.
4. Push new housing up the cable, (with the shifter side finished off with a housing end), jiggle it through the frame holes as needed.
5. Cut housing to length after you get it in the shifter. Finish off the derailleur side
6. Pull cable out of the shifter and run new cable through the housing....

Went to club #1 and started with a fast group. Fortunately 2 guys got on the front and were chatting for miles so I just sat in and didn't have to work hard until later Friend came for his first ride in 5 months after back surgery and he turned for home after 15 miles. That's when the speed kicked up and I was chasing again. I actually felt better than I thought I would but another guy and I dropped out and turned back about 30 miles in. There was one more who wanted to go with us but he didn't understand where we were bailing and kept going. Kinda tired.
