Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Honestly, I would probably do fine with a Civic si. The CTR is certainly a step up but might be wasted on a geezer like me.

Maybe it comes down to the fact that your rides are 3 to 4+ hours long? Might not have as much resistance if you weren't gone so long.

Or you could tell her what my MIL told my wife early on: "One day you'll be glad he's gone for 5 hours playing golf/riding/whatever."

This is what rjones28, Sr. hauled a wife and five kids around in, BITD.

Oh, I fully expect to be around for another 30-35 years. But I also drive like a middle-aged man so the marginal performance benefit of the CTR over the si is probably not worth the high cost. Kinda like getting a bike with Ultegra instead of Dura-Ace. Good enough is good enough.

Just served my first trick-or-treater. You west coast folks got 3 hours to get ready.

Is it ok to have a drink in between visitors? 😩

My Dad used to haul Mom and 6 kids around in something almost exactly like the below. We didn't get a station wagon till at least 1962.

Good idea, and it could get there on just 80 gallons of 87 octane.

But she cannot drive a stick and does not have the aptitude to learn. Sad!

Happy Halloween!

I got home from work early to handle any trick-or-treaters while mrs datlas has her weekly online Spanish class.

So far, no customers but there are some kids on our street so I do expect some.

I am not sure we want to buy her a car long-distance especially if she only needs it for 3-4 months. We still don't know her plans for after graduation, if we knew she would be staying in LA and getting a real income, we would be more willing to help her buy a used car.
I'm pretty happy to be in a walkable neighborhood again and have only been driving on the weekends. But I still want to drive almost every weekend so I'll probably keep the van instead of selling it and renting cars on weekends.
