You're weird. And I still have plenty of purple stuff. It's dirt cheap in the US.
|
I have an old CrMo GT MTB you may like to offer me a shed load of cash for in that case :D
|
I'll even paint it purple for you, I'll just have to mug one of the bastards that tags my back fence from time to time to get the paint.

Naw, I just put the slab in my custom made ti slab trailer and rode the 150k round trip while drinking it ;)
Fat Chance? Ed, that's the most sensible thing you've ever said on this thread! One of my all time fave retro MTB's. I want to do one of my own bikes in 'grello' (that horrid fluro green-yellow) colour of their team bikes as a sort of homage. Expat - please send me all the NOS Grafton Speed Controllers you have in purple ASAP. >edit< Nev, found the perfect accessories to your Sidis -> http://www.cyclingnews.com/tech.php?...pha_grand_tour And at only 80 quid, how can you say no? |
I'm going to go home and see what purple goodies I can dig up.
|
Ok guys, I need some help. What do you use to remove rust from chrome? In the states, we have some stuff called Naval Jelly. What's good here? I'll be stopping by the auto parts store on my way home, so a quick response is appreciated.
Also, if anyone is feeling charitable, I need a usable set of square taper cranks. They're going on my folder project, so nothing fancy is needed, as I'll only be using the big ring. |

Because I'm bad....I'm bad....you know it.....you know it....
*cough* Anyhoo.... I thought chrome didn't rust? ;) I have no idea what removes it. Yeah, an auto parts place is your best bet...Autobarn.....Supercheap Auto.... 'Naval Jelly' for some reason reminds me of the 'sump-in-the-rump' Navy scandal. *shudder* Best if we don't go there. Thylacine Update - Fellas, when it rains (as it is here in sunny Melbourne) it pours - Doing three frames at the moment, two steel, one Ti, and a meeting with a Canuck who wants a Ti Fixie this Friday. How freakin' cool is that!? :D |
rust? sandpaper, rust inhibitor (auto/paint store) and paint over it.
|
It's chrome, not Ti. D'oh! I'll post a photo and make you guys envious.

I used to use metho and one of those plastic, coloured dish scourer thingies, or steel wool if is was really bad. Chrome in a pressure pack is available at auto parts stores, but I've never used it |

I'm looking for something that dissolves the iron oxide without damaging or scratching the surrounding metal. When I post a photo, you'll understand.
So how about cranks? Anyone? Surely one of you has some old road cranks that are still useable. |
I live on the coast at lurline bay, basiclly on the cliff edge. Every thing steel, even quality stainless steel appliances rusts here. On my bmx track bike the bars, fork, seat post and crank arms get surface rust and it lives inside the house.
I use some of that mild steel wool that comes with soap in it, cant' remember the name, you get it from coles, franklins, not hard to get. Just go lightly and it barley leaves a mark, then autosol and polish the crap out of it. If it's worse than surface rust, I can't help, throw it out and start again. I do that with my toaster anually, I'm serious. |
just re-read that, I can't spell.
|
Let's hope Supercheap has something non-abrasive.
Cheers. |
cranks? maybe, I'll have a look tonight.

well all I got is a pair of Sugino MTB cranks, nothing roadie based, sorry.
On another note, can you buy cottered cranks and pedals for a kids 12" bike? |
What's the bolt pattern on the Sugino's? I need to be able to get a really big ring. Do you need some cottered cranks for a kid's bike, or are you mocking me? I can check at work and get a price. Don't know how cost-effective they would be though.
