The Kooragang vets race in Oct has been scrapped. Apparently Rob Hadley and a few others are organising a tour of the vineyards or similar out Pekolbin way.
So it looks like the Calga race for 21 May will now be on the Saturday (20 May)

just have a few questions regarding the course.... its out and back along peats ridge road yes? how heavy is traffic along that road? i.e am i going to be playing chicken with cars all ride long? also, obviously there is a turning point, how does that work? is it a round about or similar? now i put 2 and 2 togeather, you must have traffic controllers at one end stopping cars so riders dont get skittled?

The turnaround has someone there but you MUST give way to cars, we do not have the authority to stop cars, only warn them and slow them down. Having said that, I've never had to wait for a car there so it's usually fine.

That's probably because the Central Coast Century is on the 21st.
To the person who asked about weekend traffic on Peat's Ridge Rd - dead quiet in the mornings, picks up a bit (by local standards) in the afternoon when people start heading back to Sydney after their weekend away. It's a popular road for learner drivers and the horse floats can sometimes be a pain.

For all you guys wanting to improve your times - check out the "50mph uphill" thread under Road Cycling. Clearly, the Giant Cypress SL is the way to go.
Haven't laughed so much in a long while. Seppos, gotta love 'em.

Belgian Boony is a big softie wuss !! And he wins the farken thing anyway....
Boonen didn’t enjoy this one so much though. "The bunch wasn’t riding fast and I was cold, I was so cold that I asked the organisers to cancel the last lap," he revealed.

So Jan (my better half) found an old frame on the side of the road and brought it home. It's not a bad thing and I think I'll do a SS fixy. Cupla questions; should I leave the old BB shells and the headset bearing cups in for sand blasting? Shells will protect threads. Why can't I have F&R brakes? Frame is drilled and bosses are there. What gearing should I have?
Any other suggestions would be most greatfully recieved.

Sand the damn thing. It doesnt take too long, (unless you have access to a sand blaster, I found out after I sanded my frame down I did have access to one, I wasnt happy)
You can have front and back brakes, but back brakes arent necessary at all really. A lot of debate about front brakes though, just depends on how confident you are, I guess.
For gearing it really depends on how much muscle you have, how far you want to ride, how hilly your area is etc. But a good gear calculator is here
and the thread that goes with it is here
basically go for a ratio that is close to how many gear inches you want but has the most about of skid patches. So your entire tyre is a flatspot and not just one spot of it is, ie less tyrewear.
I hope that helps

what sorta frame?
check the rear spacing? 130mm? 120mm?
brakes - your choice, front is all you really need but you can go for both to be fully roadworthy.
gearing? depends on how you like hills and sore knees. In terms of gear inches anywhere around 70 would be OK to start at.
make the chainline as straight as possible.
not much else to know except go for it.

Woohoo! Won the Tuesday night crit!!
Good race with plenty of attacks and the pace was pretty high (had a go at it meself) Came down to a bunch sprint again... I was 6th wheel onto the straight, pulled out into the wind and spun me legs orf.
Won by about a bike length @ 50km/h.
Sheet that was fun

Well done Odin. It's a great feeling having a win.
I was pissed up the pub one night and was bull****ting as per usual. I told some chicks I work with that winning a bike race is better than sex. One of them says something like 'you mustn't be very good at sex then'. I told the know-it-all bag I was an absolute champion in the sack, and then asked how many friggin bike races had she won.
