oh, I forgot to tell you one of my theories. I reckon a lot of lateral flex comes from the forks, but most people don't realize it. I almost transformed my Cervelo by putting a stiffer fork on it.

could've saved ya a few grand...oh well :p

Anyway, tri bars are dangerous in a pack environment, that's why they are not used. But yes, they make you much more aero if you can "assume the position" for enough time.

Sorry climbo, I'm a fat old b*st*rd and need to drop the Kg's. Some of the blokes at work run and swim at lunch which means I don't have to wake up early to ride more often.

If I see someone on Beach Rd with tri bars and an SBR tank-top, they are TOAST!! Nobody in a tank top is allowed near me :p

Uuuurrrggghhh, what an ugly thought, trying to push my gut into one of those things. Thank Cr*st my bike has a strong cross bar to hold the weight.:)

The 'I love my Trek' thread is over the other side of the planet.

Ferchrisakes a bike is a bike. Two nice triangly things, splash of paint and your done. Fundamentally all road bikes look pretty mush the same. They only ever look really good if there's a lithe female triathlete on board. (sorry matagi, it had to be said)

...and yes Thylo, you have permission to weep for me and my ignorance

Bummer. No Grafton-Inverell for me this year, coach no likey with so much time off the bike. So that would be... now let me see... the whole goddamn winter season goooorrrnnne.

Thank god for Friday night winter track racing.

 From what I hear it's almost impossible NOT to draft at Noosa. There's so many entrants that it's more like dodgem cars....

BTW Good descending skills will come in handy for avoiding carnage whist at high speed back down the hill.

Hey jocko...come down south & do the Warny instead.

(Just to clarify....that's the Melbourne to Warrnambool race & not you in a thong getting jiggy with 2 chicks either - sorry!) :D

jock 05-29-06 02:41 AM

I'd love to but the distance is the thing he's worried about, and at 260km its longer than the Grafton. Sure I can do the miles, but his thinking is that I'd be toast in a race environment, and even toastier if I raced any races (like the state masters champs) in the weeks following.

Me, being a noob, will have to cool my heels for a while. Sort like being a sprinter in a 4 month long road race, "just stay patient, just stay patient....".

maybe next year

Bummer civic is ****, and pbk is cheaper than both. But then again I do need to get a set of shoes soon.

2 shiny pairs of Sidis arrived today :)
Prob 2004 models....but fit like gloves....

royale 05-29-06 03:07 AM

Well I've joined the world of road riding last week.

Lashed out and bought a roadie (Giant OCR Zero 2006).. Nothing too special as it's just a training bike to do some road kays and the price was right ($1800). I'll upgrade to a thylo frame in a month or two hopefully.

I've never ridden a roadie before and it is amazing how efficient they are. I did a loop from Brunswick down to Mordialloc and back (90km) in about 2hr 30mins. Averaged just under 36km/h for the full trip and just under 37km/h for the way down.

That's like 5km/h faster than I could ever done on the MTB.

Couldn't believe it.

Snap, I got my first roadie last year and was spun out by how quick you could go for so little perceived effort...
Unfort that didnt last long and now I puff along like an old man

Next ride I go on with you, I'm collapsing one of your lungs and making you wear a backpack with ten bricks in it.
