Dunno. Don't think I'll ever be able to afford one myself. 1600 bucks is a fair chunk of play money for a rear wheel, but it certainly will be a clean, no BS set-up.

Damn Mets dont fit my big melon.. even in L, I liked the strad & 5th element.
Specializeds dont feel nice either, felt like they compressed the front/rear.
I guess my gead is a weird shape....

Ok, you have a big head, and little feet - how do you keep from falling over?

62vette 05-26-06 06:28 PM

Maybe Willy's knuckles drag on the gound providing some counterbalance :p

It's tough when it keeps getting caught in the chain...really upsets your rythm

62vette 05-27-06 03:37 AM

Allegedly I just watched the Super 14 final, but it just looked like a bunch of blokes running around in the fog with the commentators saying "I think that's Tamati Ellison taking the ball up" and the man on the sideline responding with "no that was the water boy Murray". :(

I got my last shred of dignity caught in my chain this arvo when I had an OTB crossing a water filled ditch after the front wheel got bogged - right in front of an elderly couple who didn't know whether to laugh or hobble off for help.

jock 05-27-06 05:13 AM

Ouch. Messy business vette. No injuries apart from your pride?

sorry Jock and all, back,

how good has MCewen been.

And even Gates and Vogels.

jock 05-27-06 03:52 PM

wb thunder. I see you've been back through all the posts. Sterling effort :)

McEwen is on fire, and what about Basso smashing 'em the other day. Got claims in the tour GC you think?

What have Gates and old man Vogels been up to?

62vette 05-27-06 04:17 PM

I only went over at about 2kmh so it was just pride, and a couple of minor bruises, who'd have thought you could get hit in the head by your saddle :o

Thylacine 05-27-06 05:29 PM

At least that bits soft! It's like your bike calling you a dumbass in the nicest possible way.

HDTVKSS 05-28-06 01:06 AM

worst race ever.....

7 stacks including 1 mega OTB in the new section where i managed to wind myself on the bars before going over, destroyed back, cuts, brusies and hurt pride. gotta love ourimbah......

days like this make me feel like shelving the MTB racing and just concentrating on road!

I knew there was a reason I gave my MTB to the missus ;) Bad luck Commo, sounds like nothing went right.

wb thunder!

HD, It could have been worse, I went up to Killlingworth to ride and there was a race on...WTF XC race was at ourimbah..? Anyway, they let us ride and the course is CRAP! no hills mainly firetrail. CRAP!
Oh did I mention it's CRAP! never let this day be spoken of again!

On the + side, We stopped of at Ourimbah on the way home for a fix, rode the old XC track as well which is very sketchy, one really nice section whic tests the mettle!

It may get better, I really like the looks of the SRAM I-Motion 9 comming out. I hear its as good (or better) than the Rohloff and much much cheaper.

Basso looks good.

I picked him for the double, tho I want Ullrich to win.

Voels got 4th and he and Gates have piloted Robbie Mac and been there in the last few kilometres for him and half wheeling in reverse just ready to sweep his rear wheel and make sure he did not get boxed.

Great riding by those two..

fark that, I read that it was great. You've saved me a wasted trip going up there. :) Ourimbah rocks !!

climbo 05-28-06 04:27 PM

anyone ride/go to the CCCC Hcp yesterday? Who won?

Probably only one section that was any good and it was excluded from the XC race course...:(

I cant belive the lack of hills, I mean Ourimbah doesnt have any hills as such unless Demtel is included but it at least undulates...Killingworth was flat as a witches tit!

Dodging a few ruts...you could have ridden a cyclo-cross bike round there at serious speeds!!!!!!!

HDTVKSS 05-28-06 05:22 PM

Odin, yer was messy allright. ah well, next time eh?

Pshaw - HMBA races at killingworth, CCOMTB races at ourimbah. small turnout due mianly to the state round running at appin.

im sooooo sore today :( with a massive headache to boot. thinking im going to cut down on the MTB racing except for richmond which is a course that suits me( read : no big drops) otherwise ill just go out and hit it up socially on the weekends. 2X a month road racing bekons....

thats wierd what you have siad about killingworth, most people who have been there have said its great. i guess its horses for courses. there is a hill there, a big one that they included in the state round last year and caught a lot of people off guard. Penrose was a track that surprised me. also descibed as a location of great single track, it was like 50/50 singletrack to fire road??!! Ill probably still have a crack at killingworth one day. i dont tend to mind the less techy courses as it normally means you can get some serious speed / drift action happening.

We did ride up the trails next to the downhill course... was pretty funny really cause when they said the DH race was on I stupidly asked the question "Where?" Dont think it went down too well:D

Still if you go, pack the road bike ;)

Oh yeah and take your 4WD too, the firetrail to get into the trail head is a shocker!
My mate from Syd in his nice 5 series wagon wasnt too impressed, fortunately I was in my mates work ute as it would have eaten my l'il corolla.

HDTVKSS 05-28-06 05:44 PM

also, where is the " old XC track " at ourimbah?

climbo 05-28-06 05:47 PM

Penrose was OK, it was part of the Fling and was probably the best bit of the 100km as it wasn't fire road but yeah, it's all little sections connected by fire roads. And Penrose is pretty flat, at least the Fling bits were that we rode.

If anything I'd say if the trails weren't at least as technical or hilly as Ourimbah, I wouldn't waste my time going there. I MTB to have a challenge, not race a dirt crit. Even PShaws Woy Woy tip ride rates better than Killingworth and it's not even that well known. :)

I'll have to look it up. What I really want though is a 14 speed gearbox that's frame mounted. No other vehicle has the gears in the hub, so why bikes?

well, if you went there now, i think youl find little more than a very technical trials track as it got logged the day after the 8 hour! the 8 hour had a fair bit of climbing in it. Also IIRC the fling ran penrose in reverse of the normal XC track.
