Oh wait, that's Thylacine Cycles, my mistake :D I think Omega is a UK company but the frames are Chinese, as if you couldn't tell that from the price. If you want your own special piece of titanium landfill, why not go straight to the source www.xacd.com.cn and cut out the middleman? |

hey guys heres a bf.net question for ya. (kinda directed at the long term members and expat) Whats the go with the motebecane threads? Is it really from shills or is someone just having a whinge? (no Im not looking to buy one.)

Also just to check if my Ebay scam radar is working do you reckon this is a scam scammy looking bike on ebay
Why I think it is: Why is it listed on the Aus ebay when the item location is in the states? Who starts an one day auction? Who starts an one day auction on abike with full dura ace, selle italia seat, and kysrium wheels for $800? the use of a gmail account? is that a spelling mistake in the model's name? |

Sounds exactly like the mob I was reporting the other week though. (they did about a dozen bikes) Check the user history, bet there's no bikes in there either... |
The Serotta? Kotta?
100% scam. |
Got a question for youse - a little while ago I was worried that my frame was cracked in the chainstay cos it was ghost shifting... after a real good look, what I thought was a crack was just a crappy weld that the paint didn't quite cover.
I've just about got the shifting problem sorted, but it's got me wondering about the bike in general and how suitable it really is for racing. 1994 Giant OCR1. The faster I get, the more problems pop up - when I sprint, it just feels mushy, occasionally ghost shifts and my speedo magnet belts the sensor (4mm gap) I bought these wheels around xmas Shimano - 550's, are they known to be pretty flexy?. I do all of my race sprints seated cos it feels so crap. I've also noticed that spinning hard on the trainer, the bottom bracket sways 5-10mm. Ya reckon I need another bike that's more suited - when I started racing, a few people said that an OCR1 should do me fer a while, but now I dunno... |
550s are pretty flexy from what I've read. Actually, I won't buy prebuilt wheels coz you're either stuck with proprietary spokes, or paying for 'pseudo-aero' and 'psuedo light' when the reality is most are neither. Convenient - yes - good value? Not really.
Your OCR1 is past it's prime, Odin. I think that was also back in the day when Giants only came in four sizes too, right? |

Odin,
When you started racing, the OCR1 was fine. You've stepped up heaps since then. If you reckon the thing isn't up to it, probably time to step onto a new bike! Get your missus to PM me if she argues the point! A mate of mine who owns a bike shop prefers Mavic over Shimano wheels at any price point. He sells both and generally likes Shimano equipment, just reckons the Mavic wheels are better. 550's are a fairly basic budget training wheel, approx 105 level. Nothing wrong with them, but they aren't fantastic either |
You'll be getting a PM soon ;)

Hokay. I haven't asked any dumb questions that have been answered 1 zamillion times for the last couple of weeks so here goes. I have crazy problems sleeping the night before races/events where I have to get up early. Purely a case of freaking out about not being able to sleep but I can't fix it. So, what I'm wondering is, is there any downside to taking a sleeping tablet the night before a race? Will my muscles still be asleep the next day so I end up getting passed by 5 year old girls with streamers on their bikes?
|
I've tried sleeping pills once or twice. They make me feel really groggy/hung over in the morning.
They say that you don't get a deep sleep either. |
Ack. Whether or not that's better than only getting 2 hours sleep...

I always suffer from nerves the night before and morning of an event. Stupid really as I can crank out similar rides in training with monotonous regularity. But add in a race number and a bunch of amped up strangers and I go to pieces. A decent warm up ride seems to help somewhat.
As long as you are getting plenty of sleep most nights, it won't affect your cycling performance too much to only sleep lightly the night before an event. |

It doesn't seem that heavy to me. http://www.ausbike.com/pics/ocr104.jpg Gotta go out and get some brake cables today... might see if anyone does finance on bikes. |

Na, I need 7 - 8 hours regularly or I'm falling asleep by lunch time.
It's always best to have your wits in some sort of working order, and a quiet warm up ride helps with that. I mostly do road rides, so cliffs are generally not an issue, just the hundreds of other eejits around me :p |
