Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thanks for this...I'm 90+ but nowehere near strong enough to break anything. Maybe this will give me the motivation to drop down into the 80's!!

do you know the dudes over on the "Aus Bike Cafe" forum? I think it's a bit of a clique over there, and whatever you do, don't criticize critical mass

Agree - seems to be a bit too much "us vs the cagers" over there at times.

I think half of them ride together every Sunday morning, out east

.....and the whole USENET thing; gimme a break!! DO they think they're ARPANET purists, or something??!!

It's so impractical it's ridiculous. One day I'm gunna use the taboo words "chat room" over there, then run for cover. "Chat room?? Oh no, this is a sophisticated news and information posting service, populated by only the most articlute and educated internet users"

Bikes: 8 bikes - one for each day of the week!

America - what a country! Not only can I get beer at my grocery store, but seeing as how the 4th of July is coming up, I bought fireworks today there too. Nothing like celebrating independence by blowing shyte up.

Hey, here in NZ every 5th of November we celebrate some dumb ****'s attempt to blow up the British parliament by burning an effigy of him and then blowing shyte up.

Celebrate failure with cordite

It's not a bad loop they do actually - I've done most of it at various times I think. I might not be welcome on the actual ride though coz I'm such a non computer dude I don't even know what the hell USENET is!!

You shouldn't have any problem with the ksyriums...heaps of fat bastards (including this one!) are riding them all the time. I do tend to keep mine for race day though...too bloody stiff to ride evey day on. Hey whats this 90+ kgs?.....shouldn't it be 100- kgs?....or have you been getting out of the garage?

Only a few days until Vinekourov begins his epic quest for the yellow jersey. Will it be a futile and fruitless journey into 200km solo breakaways? Will he spoil the sprinters party again this year and take out the Champs Elise? Or will his new team make him just shut up and ride to team orders again like a good little Kazakstani? Will SBS cross to the first day of cricket test and show highlights because its been rain delayed just when thing are heating up in Frogland?

Go the guys whose names end in "OV"!!!! and the Aussies of course...

And while we're on the subject, what is it with this critical mass thing?

Maybe we should invite them to demonstrate the principle on Peats Ridge Rd on a weekday - it would be interesting to see them try and take the lane against a fully loaded quarry truck.

Actually Jock, from what I've been able to gather over on A&S I think the idea has evolved somewhat from that definition. (at least amongst the rather .... err.... interesting types that post over there)

Ppls on the A&S forum are a tad 'militant'. You will always get rednecks involved in mass participation events. If only they were all voluptuous, female, and members of Critical Ass

One of the fanciest shops down here (Pro Motion; dealers of Scapin, Look, Time,
Cannondale, Giant, etc) recently closed for renovations and has just
re-opened as a Giant-only dealer!!!???!!

WTF????

Is that the way things will go? Manufacturers having their own retail outlets? 'Strewth'!!

I'd keep mine for racing if I could afford a second set of wheels to train on. Bluddy Campy - not so much around for cheap.

Which I suppose isn't really an issue since I've let the race licence lapse anyway....

I also probably don't notice them being too stiff for daily riding coz I'm <75kgs.
