Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Apparently Campagnolo told teams using its gear 'it's all or nothing'. No using other suppliers cranks.

Hope you're gonna use high qual gear for best results. Shameless promotion of Gillette Mach III as they are bloody brilliant and fast. never use the disposable crapola except the BIC single blade rubbish (multiblade cheap**** clogs in two strokes and cannot be cleared). I've also given up on the hair pulling beasty (Epithingy) coz I ended up getting heaps of nasty ingrown hairs.

And a final word of warning: never ever use your wifes blade coz they're always blunt, dangerous, and infected with girl-couties.

Anyone know what time the TDF starts tonight?

Mach III's it is. BTW She uses my blades for her legs, so now they'll be cutting the crap out of her.

PShaw, you missed a good ride early today at Ourimbah, did you get out? I rode all the new trails, very cool !!
I got the furry short look down, although I do give the fur boardies a smoth down with a number 1..just to balance the look

Yeah Climbo, mornings aint workin at the moment, so sorry I missed you.
I rode around lunchtime from Palmdale side, straight up then across to the XC for 2 laps then back over (~40kms) legs are sore now.
2 front wheel washouts, one slow one fast...more bark off when the front end dug in and sent me OTB.

And rode that rocky rollover in kincumber the other day, sat at top thinking then one pedal and over. Really sketchy run-off. Mate went OTB in a huge way, slid along on his chest on the only patch of leaf litter around and pulled up with his head about 2mm short of a a nicepointy rock

I slo discovered a new piece of singletrack on the right hand side, I also now know how to get to that freeride(ish) section...we need to get out. You still on SS?

Oh, and congrats Jock on the track!

You seem to have made quite a study of this shaving thing.

Only a certified masochist would use the EpiLady - if ya wanna rip your hair out by the roots, go straight to waxing.

BTW, once you have cleared the initial heavy timber, you should be able to keep the regrowth under control with a cheaper blade than the Mach III. The Gillette Daisy (cute girly pink thing ) will manage it just fine, despite being a double blade.

My blades are only blunt after hubby's been at them and a healthy dose of girl cooties will help you get in touch with your feminine side.

Yeah I need to get out, fark, first MTB ride in ages today... SS, yes, it's the only MTB to have. Even Tony wants one now, if you don't buy that Kona Unit first

That's because the carbon cranks are 9 times out of 10 no lighter then Aluminium, and more than likely don't need to be thrown away after a crash.

For you and me though, they're 2-3 times more expensive, so I don't know why anyone bothers.

However......if I had the money, of all the carbon cranks I'd probably get the Zipps. OTOH, a freind of mine is making some lugged steel cranks, and knowing my fetish for steel cranks, I'll probably end up with them, weight be damned.

On the tour front, I'm going for Robbie, although I wouldn't be suprised to see Zabel up there with Hushovd. Did you see him in the ITT? A man possessed!

Isn't it bloody fantastic that Armstrong has retired. All the tossers who only followed cycling on the back of the Lance bandwagon have ferked off back to whatever rock they crawled out from and aren't clogging up the Tour de France sub forum!

cewen has been fourth on this stage, four times in a row, in the first bunch kick of the tour. In 2002, if you ignore that Bertogliati stole the first stage, he was second behind zabel or second behind Friere in stage 2.

2003 he was second behind Petacchi when he tried to pass to early and did not have it to come over Petacchi. Should have hid and passed him in the last 50 like Friere does.

2004 he lost to Kirsipuu coming from too far back...

actually last year he was third

This would hurt though, the first stage must be the most presitgious for the sprinters and to lose to Jimmy Casper of all people.

He really lost to Boonen. Because when Casper went flying past he should have reacted, like Pollack forgot to react to Forster in the last stage of the Giro. He was worried about T Boonen.

Then he got boxed, and to get out of it with second was a miracle, great bit of riding, and in the quest for green, it is really a win. He has about 15 points head start on Boonen, and nullified Hushovd's advantage.

If he had not have been boxed it looked like he had the speed to win. He had Casper in 10 more metres. And he had to accelerate twice, and acclerate from a lower launch speed. Higher launch speed requires less watts to acclerate from. Casper launched at a decent speed.

Zabel really should have come around Casper, he was given an armchair leadout.

but how's the irony of the first yellow jersey of 2006 covered in blood?
Did he need a transfusion

Leppin Squeezy. Nutrition for Smurfs.

Let's see....Record carbon cranks........picks up pricelist...........about 650-700 bucks? And not available in any sizes over 175.

I've decided not to watch the live coverage, only on selected nights. Sorry, but I can't wade through 2+ hours of pretty much nothing to get to watch a 15 second sprint finish. How did my pick Zabel go? Had a good lead out but blew it? Gah.

Some dude on yesterday's bunch ride reckoned he has a "special" diet the week before an event that lets him do 160km rides with nothing but water in his bottles and no food. He hinted that it was a promotional thing for some product so I didn't ask for details in case it was some multi-level marketing scheme.

Looks a bit like Rolf Sorensen in Valenciennes, 1991. At least Thor can be stitched up and get on again tomorrow.
