And in the continued sprit of winning ( TDF, Ra RA ;) ) HDT walked away with his 1st road win this afternoon at Calga :D

Long story short 50 K race, about 12 or so starters. Wary of how the field fractured last time i raced there, but also of how i got nailed at oakville 2 weeks ago i kept a keen eye and tried to stay mid pack. a 1st lap attempt by myself to break things up one of the climbs proved fruitless as well.

1st time up blood and the contenders showed their hands. I pulled a nice easy pace in the 25 while one little whippet in particular put in a stellar climb to come out 100 meters or so in front. I fiigured hed be one to watch come lap 2 ;)

lap 2, i took a pull before going down blood, just nice and easy, wasnt going to burn my matches. think i took a pull somwhere else as well. main thing is i managed to stay on, which was a small miracle in itself and shows my group riding may have finally sorted itself out. thanks for the tips climbo :)

anyhoo, last time up blood i pick up a wheel of a guy i know is a good climber but not Mr Whippet whos dropped back a little. 1/2 way up and we have a gap so i ask him if he wants to work togeather and make a break for the finish? he says yes and i indicate ill take 1st pull, up 2 gears and away we go, 10 seconds later i look back for him to come around and ive dropped him.... opps.... :o non intentional. I figured this was my chance and hit it hard to the finish. in the drops, HR never under 185 and definatley not looking back!

commiing rounfd the last corner to the finsih straight i was having nightmares of Kloden getting caught just short of the line so picked up a gear and just rode the vomitron for the last 200 meters and managed the win! about 5 - 10 seconds back was my short time dropped climbing partner and Mr whippet whod put in an effort togeather to catch me....

Robbie it was not, but good enough for me :)

Also was keeping a keen eye out for an errant STI or shaguar!

I'm going Evans Rogers 1 2
go boys.

A few hours dawdling around this arvo surely helped.
Had a go at accessing every bit of public waterfrontage possible from Clovelly to the Cross this arvo
Can highly recommend the chapel at HMAS whatever at South Head, the surf looked gorgeous nearly everywhere, Nice crit/cyclocross off Vaucluse Rd. there
Parsley Bar and Lavender Bay were picture perfect.

Ok how bout a 24hr verse competition?

The Funky Plumber has lost his tools
He's in the running for Dux of fools
neglected on the footpath they sat
while he drove off and that was that.

So if in Castlecrag you did spy
perhaps you were but passing by
My poor departed Black Stanley (he's a large toolbox:))
and his contents ...

Forsooth ye shall be rewarded

.
.
WINNING SUBMISSION recieves a new pair of Lin socks of their choice for their efoorts
and perhaps a go for Column 8?
Sob story? Come one come all.

Good effort! Do you get a yellow jersey? :D

The STi and the Jag were confined to quarters today - their owner had "helping hubby work on vintage car" duty.

However, if you want to put in some really blistering times at Calga, I'll bring out the STi next time and chase you up and down Peats Ridge Rd - nothing like a screaming turbo up your clacker to get you motivated. :p

Sorry boys and girl, 32-12 to the All Blacks :D

Well done Brocky, good effort to ride through the pain for the win.

Funny piece of television at the start of tonight's match. Just after the haka, Jerry Collins was down on one knee in the middle of the park, possibly in prayer. So the cameras zoomed in on him, to discover that he was having a wizz and shaking off the snake. Not a word was spoken by the commentators :roflmao:

...and there be proof positive of what all Victorians have been saying for years, "thugby isn't actually a sport". I mean if it was, Kiwis wouldn't be any good at it! :D

yeah but sprint stages are so boring. I love watching Robbie kick butt in the end but the first 180kms is a yawn-fest usually.

I just thought in past years, there was a lot more mountain climbing stages than what they have this year.

you'll be happier from stage 10 then.....the conspiracy theorist in me thinks that perhaps the TDF organisers put the boring stuff all early this year because some round ball game in Germany was taking attention away from them....just a theory mind, but I'm betting I'm not far off.
