Jeff Stobie. Great bloke.

was a VIS memeber early-mid 90s.....with Goold, Iacuone, Priem, Drake, Smith, et al.

Strong, strong unit. Had the infuriating ability to train up after a lay-off for what seemed like a fortnight and then be able to inflict some serious damage.

531Aussie 01-12-06 11:41 PM

Yikes!!

any of these other regular place-getters former superstars that I should be scared of?

Geoff Thomson
Guy Green
Geoff Whiter
Andrew Nicholls
Andy Naylor
Guy Green
Tom Crebbin
Andrew Nicholls
Laurie Gates
Peter Campbell
Doug Calvert
Ian McGeogh

Guy Green aka "Dad" (coz when I was young and excited he seemed really old...) will race and race and race. Has got some of the funniest stories about bike racing there are.....he'll prpbably tell you one in the bunch, then as you piss yer pants larfing, drop the 12 and disappear up the road.

Naylor is strong too.

531Aussie 01-12-06 11:52 PM

thanks

it looks like Crowe and Stobie dominate most races

I saw Guy Green at the Baw Baw classic a few years ago - when it snowed. I only know him to say g'day to, but I always reckoned he was a nice bloke. He said he'd driven up there during the week after work to check the course out! :) Pretty keen sort of thing to do, as between Noojee and the mountain would be 50km of the windiest, narrowest, most wombat and wallaby infested bit of road in Victoria.

I know Geoff Thompson really well. He's a diesel and wins a few vets races. Don't do turns over him or have him go over you in the group as he's one of those blokes that sprints over the top of you when he does a turn. Half the bunch will abuse him and he'll ignore it. Besides that particular nasty habit, he's a good guy!

How was Symmond's wicket. Bloody twinkle-toes must've been in daydream land. Moved slower than the umpires do

Back in my day if a calf locked up in a sprint we'd just reach down there 'n rip it clean orf, and tuck it into a jersey pocket so as ma could stich it back on when we got home.

..........and you tell the young people today, and they won'tbelieveyu. :p

Are you made of toilet paper? Of course we'll go.

mrkott3r 01-13-06 04:17 AM

you've found me terrible secret. I am made out of toilet paper.

Brian 01-13-06 04:24 AM

Kotter ain't waterproof! If it's pissin' down, I'll be there to at least see who shows up. Anything less, and I'm going riding. If you can't make it, that's cool. My Cannondale gets packed last, so there's always next weekend.

The missus beckons.

Cheers.

Like he's been riding for 20 year with too much weight over the handlebars.

What sort of q is that? Of course we're going if it rains.
