Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Less skill required, certainly. But you risk a 500 CHF fine if you free Willy it where spectators might see you.

We need some pros to join BF and comment in my “Nature Breaks” thread.

We had our hottest midweek ride of the year. We started a little early to beat the heat. Start temps around 75, by the end it was upper 80’s and humid. I drank 5 bottles of water and did NOT need a nature break. Luckily I acclimate to heat better than average, so while some of my friends were clearly struggling, I felt great.

I well remember the first time I spotted a piss bottle on the road. I thought, "Coke isn't supposed to be that color. Did it get bleached by the sun? Or maybe it's... OH! RIGHT!!!"

I tend to remember getting flashed in a bar.

We started in Seattle. I’ll bet I can remember every place we camped during the trip at least into the first day in MN. I can remember many others, but probably not all in order.

We were talking about gray hair recently. Remember COVID and lockdowns?

Our lockdown was lifted about a week later and this mess got sheared.

I had a salon I liked near the old job. Good haircut for reasonable price and usually not a long wait. I followed them when they lost their lease and moved into a temporary spot, then a new permanent place. I even kept driving down there after I retired until they closed for lockdown.

Mrs John bought some clippers and started cutting my hair at home. Not as good as the salon ladies but good enough for me and a lot cheaper. Plus, I don't have to drive anywhere.

Good Day Mate

Meet Benny, sans the Jets. 7 MO 35 lb Australian Labradoodle. Just brought him home today from a very limited and sterile environment. He is a bit overwhelmed and feels more secure in his crate. Kevin doesn’t know what to think about his new housemate and vice versa.

I went months without a haircut and finally talked Mrs. GJ into using the clippers, but she was far too hesitant about it, so I had to seize control and do it myself. I think I did that twice, and then finally when the vaccine came out I went to my usual haircutters, and I was amazes how adept she was at working around the mask and straps.

New bike yesterday and not a ton of energy on shakedown ride so cut it short on a hill climb and headed home. Today I know why. I inherited Mr RSbob’s head cold. So the bike will sit as I get through it. Timing.

Everywhere is paradise compared to this place right now, we're in the midst of an unprecedented crime wave. SMFH
