Man I'm so disappointed they de-bikered one of my favourite biker bars in Phoenix. AND the Circle K across the street we always called the Satanic Circle because it was store #666 got shut down recently.
#sad
Honestly the ladies here are a lot hotter now than when this was a biker bar though.

Nice ride today. A tad warm, at least by Peninsula standards, at about 85-88, but I loaded up my bottle with ice and headed out. At about 2 1/2 miles in, I could see something ahead of me, which turned out to be a doe and two small fawns trotting down the road. One of them needs to stick closer to Mama if he wants to avoid being Lion Chow.
As I was heading down Canada, it felt like the wind was in my face, and looking at the grass on the side of the road, it was all bending towards me. The last maybe half mile before the turn, it seemed to die down, but as soon as I turned around, it was in my face again, and sure enough, the grass was now bent towards me AGAIN. Omnidirectional goddam headwind. I looked at some weather stations on Weather Underground, and sure enough, between 11 and 1, the wind changed direction from SE to NNW. Apparently the change followed me down all 6 miles on Canada Rd, so I could ride into the wind the whole time.
I got passed twice by younger, fitter riders. The first time I TRIED to stay in contact but he was just more aero. Also stronger. The second time, I hung on a couple bikelengths back for about a mile till we parted ways. That felt good! And it turned out I'd gotten a PR for that route. Not too shabby!

Our group spent a night in Dyersville, IA. It was so hot and humid that no one took the short ride out of town to see the Field of Dreams. I’ve still never seen the movie.
Spent a night in Huntington, IN. Had a Dan Quayle Burger at a local joint. (It’s his home town.). It was nothing special, just like him. During our last night in IN a woman at a bar called Staggers in Monroeville lifted her shirt for my camera. Forum rules prevent me from posting the photo.
Those were the highlights of IA and IN.

The 3rd time was in 1988 when Mrs. GJ and I were travelling East to visit family during my 7th year sabbatical at Genentech. We had a book that listed great places to eat local specialties across America, and one place just of I-80 was supposed to have great tenderloin sandwiches, but had apparently changed hands since the book came out, because there was nothing like that on the menu. The food was the worst we had on that whole trip, and the waitress had one of those permanent frowns. The next day, when we were at the motel packing to leave, I forgot my pillow, dooming me to 6 weeks of whatever pillows were available.
So, I don't have good memories of Iowa.

The older I get, the more there is that I forget.
Sad.

The UCI is determined to take away all the fun stuff:

“To respect the image of cycling and the Giro d’Italia, the organizer and the Commissaires’ Panel inform all riders that urinating into a bottle and subsequently discarding it is strictly prohibited,” the jury report stated.
