Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You have never witnessed me talking with a medical professional.

Have you cooked a potato in your microwave yet?

1) you have said you were described as a difficult patient on this very web site.
2) cooking a potato in the microwave is for savages. I am not a savage.

I am a difficult patient to treat, not to interact with.

My ailment is beyond the frontiers of witch doctory "science."

Nope. Did a complete service on my lawn tractor (air, gas and oil filters) oil and plugs. Level the deck and air the tires - ready for another season. The tractor has a Kawaski engine which is still fantastic 8 years running.

Is a Red Wing like a Buffalo chicken wing? The only sports I watch are tennis (since I played on teams and did tournaments through college), the grand cycling tours and football when the Seahawks are well postponed to go the Super Bowl. My father being German and my mother sports agnostic, we never had base, foot or basketball on or went to any games.

In high school, I did track, tennis, soccer. I also just cannot sit for hours watching a sport when I can be outside doing a sport. (I record what i watch in advance and replay in the evening)

Are such encounters unusual in your area? Bloody things are everywhere here. We have a very large year-round population; they no longer migrate. Thousands of 'em. Mating has been accomplished; nesting is commencing. One of the exits from my building (work) is now under its annual closure order. Mr. and Mrs. Goose have their nest under a tree immediately outside the door. Woe unto anyone who dares to come within 12 feet or so of them.

They're some about in certain areas, but I hadn't had a low flyover like that in a while. They were going low in one direction, then turned around and came directly above me a minute later

What do you mean they don't migrate? How would they not freeze to death? I don't know how they even survive here in our quasi-north winter.

I know a woman who was on a group ride when several of them took flight. One hit her in the head. She crashed, fractured her collarbone and suffered a concussion. The goose’s abdomen ruptured. It fell to the ground and literally spilled its guts.

Glad I was not there to see that.

Inherent systems, adaptation, and climate change. Cold is not an issue for them at all: they are heavily insulated by their feathers (hence "goose down"), and even their feet/legs can't freeze because they have some weird circulatory thing. All they need is occasional access to grass and to open water.
Urban areas like ours are perfect; there are always 'warm up' periods. Why migrate when you have everything you need right at 'home'? They 'know' humans can't/won't hurt them (protected species), and there are very few natural predators to worry about.

They're year 'round here, too. Maybe they've always been. There do seem to be times of the year when they move around more, which we joke are the geese migrating to Foster City (the next town to the East). There's a small flock of a dozen or so birds who hang out on the grounds of the high school that's on the next block.

I have nothing to contribute to the ongoing goose discussion.

Guess I need some goose down.

At any rate, I like the geese

My work (u. campus) is adjacent to a couple of branches of the river that runs through the centre of the city, so the resident flock (prolly 1,000 or more of them) simply moves around between the many manicured fields within the campus grounds and the river. At this time of year, the breeding couples are busy fattening themselves up for nesting so the whole campus is a green, slimy mess. Signs like below are everywhere, at doorways and outside and will be for the next few weeks.

For baked potatoes, cook at 450F for an hour for a crunchy skin which is my favorite. In an oven, natural gas is best.

That's a lot of geese. What do they eat?

It was thoughtful of someone to put up that sign three times, in case an exiter missed the other two on the way out.

Grass, grass, and more grass; it is 'refined' internally, then expelled shortly after being consumed. Wingèd cows.

Yes, one sometimes imagines that an entire admin. department here is devoted to redundancy. That said, the students here are so self-(and social media)absorbed that very little gets through to them. I've little doubt most of them would overlook all three signs, then complain when assaulted.
