Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Once again, I missed the window for a ride IRL, which is too bad because it looked AWESOME!!!!! I've been getting crappy sleep lately, so I started out thinking I'd just go lightly. I kinda did that for the first half, with the exception of the climbs which I did at FTP, but I went harder the last half. It was too much fun to dog it!

Anyway, here I am on the Epic KOM Bypass.

A birthday ride in December in the Pacific North-WET is not in the cards until Climate Change really steps on the gas. Even a metric version is out of the question.

I have a S too and absolutely love it. It’s quick in sport mode but can’t hold a candle to MrsRSbob’s VW EV which is a fricken rocket in normal mode. Have never put the EV in Sport MOde for fear of whiplash.

It's your birthday, you get to make the rules. Do it when you want, how you want, and as far as you want.

The whole hatch under the tail light is wavy and dented but doesn't show in the pictures. The bumper cover and black valance are tore and will have to be replaced. It looks like the hitch was pushed in some. I'll be surprised it the bill is less than $15k. Car has 4k miles on it. Wife is pretty bummed.

FBMP mirror ad of the day. I kinda live for these. Only $10, if the ad is still up Sunday I might have to go snag it.

No question the Tesla will beat the Dodge in that type of race. Where the Tesla fails is the ability to make those runs multiple times. They overheat and have to stop and rest for a while. The Porsche EV, on the other hand, can make almost unlimited runs without that problem.

Pretty familiar with EVs having had a Taycan S for a couple of years. My reference to horsepower was meant to cover the EV power output. Maybe should have used the term "torque."

Wonder if you have to pay full price for a replacement plate?

My wife doesn't let me drive her 2023 Tesla Y very often but even after 2.5 years, the acceleration still astounds me.

Apart from the monstrous torque of EVs, the Hellcat is famously hard to start without slipping. - 700 HP to rear wheels only. When the Hellcat came out I remember reading a bunch of reviews detailing how hard it is to get good 0-60 or quarter miles with them.

The Tesla OTOH has all-wheel drive.

I never worked on a Tesla but I did work on GM electric cars for 10 years. When replacing battery cell sections in Volt cars, you have to balance the charge between the new section and the other 2 before reassembling the battery. There are temperature sensors in the cells and they don't like heat. I found if the battery was in direct sunlight the sensors would cause the control module to shut down the charge process. The first time this happened was quite a surprise to me and later I saw other guys struggling with the same problem so I graciously told them about it.

When the battery is in the car there is coolant flowing through it but it, and the inverter and motor are monitored for heat and power will be reduced or shut down if needed. I have no idea if that is what is happening in your scenario but I'm full of anecdotes.

Volunteers

Wow, slow morning everyone must be watching the Red Wings vs. The Rangers.

In other news, here are some Georgia volunteers which are quite obviously better than the Tennessee volunteers.
