Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The article says the X model has 721 hp with the boost of the hybrid motor. Before I retired, I worked on the 650 hp models. Driving one is kinda ridiculous. I think those cars had a 0-60 around 3 seconds, the new X shaves a half second off of that. Asking for trouble. You can be cruising at 30 mph and go to 80 before you realize it.

I don't own a car. Have ZERO interest, but posted image of Batman cars referenced previously.

American cars should have the intelligence built-in so they cannot exceed the legal speed limit. Then there should be controls implemented to prevent burning rubber, 360*s, etc. Make America Safe Again.

Buenos tardes, mi amigos.

No babies spit, sneezed, coughed, or threw up in my mouth today, although would be tolerable if we had grandkids.

Lots going on except riding. Winds have been high teens gusting into the 30 mph range for the last two weeks solid.

Two plus weeks into the work on our pool renovation.

Current state:

Past state:

New travertine coping and grill pedestal instead of the flagstone, new tile, new plaster, refinish the patio, and more. Several DAs worth of stuff. Hopefully done early next week.

Wife's new (5 months old) Macan got rearended this week. 83 year old coot ran tight into her. Tailgate took a good hit, but you cannot see all the crumples in the pictures.

I worked on cars for 50 years, professionally for at least 40. I'm pretty burned out on it but I still entertain thoughts of getting another old car to work on. Since retiring I drive less than 5K miles per year in a 20 year old beater. Most of the miles are from driving to bike rides.

I don't begrudge anyone having the car they want. The problems start when they drive like morons, but that happens regardless of the vehicle.

Are you fully retired yet? Nice pool, btw. I lived in a guest house for 9 years that had a 20x40 pool just outside. I didn't use it as much as I could have, but it was pretty nice after a hot day at work.

Just the instant torque of an EV can get you in to trouble. My family vehicle can do 0-60 in about 4.2, IIRC. It's super fun, it makes matching speed & merging absolutely trivial, but yeah - you can step on the accelerator and find yourself going much faster than intended in a very short order.

Sort of. Generally working about 15 hours per week, Monday thru Thursday. Last month was closer to full time. 50 to 60 billable hours per month is my target. Working with a handful of longtime clients with pretty consistent needs right now.

MPAOTD:
I've been working at a collision repair shop for a while and it's always surprising how well plastic bumpers pop back into place and hide damage, specifically to the rear body panel and impact bar.
We had a new service writer out once getting the estimate for a Nissan Altima set up. As I walked by, I could see the telltales of a mashed rear body panel and commented to the writer how it was probably a total. They didn't believe me, so I told them to open the trunk and sure enough, the rear body panel was pushed way in and it was a total loss.

I got rear ended in a hit and run in early February in my 2000 Tacoma (police found the person responsible) and got pushed into another person. Unlike your Porsche, the damage looks way worse than it actually is. The bulk of the damage was taken by the bumpers and tailgate. When the rear bumper got pushed in, it got pushed down slightly too and cleared the bed almost entirely. The brackets holding it got folded but the frame itself is perfectly fine. Tailgate came off no problem, swapped the taillight and painted over the minimal damage to the bedside to stop rust. Front end is waiting on custom headlights to arrive and the off-road tube bumpers to get back from powder coating before I tear it all down and fix it.
My truck is a highly desirable set of options so despite being 26 years old, insurance paid me out $7500 and it didn't total.

The story on the police report on the person responsible reads like a comedy of errors, it's wild.

I'm surprised there's anything green there, given your drought.

We have tornados forming just south of us. They pop up and then dissipate. A few minutes later, another pops. My son sent me a link to these guys that travel the country chasing tornadoes and are here now. Video is live near Hopedale, IL.

Bikes: Bikes??? Thought this was social media?!?

They are imported - i don't make the Rules.
Maybe tariff them out of existence?

Or? ... IDK.

Maybe, ... make it a universal law in my perfect universe.

That Spanish Seat (I drove in Espana) from a few decades back might fit the bill. What's America's minimum speed limits? hopefully not faster than 45mph.

When I was in Mallorca in 2001, Seats were everywhere. Considering the width of a lot of streets in medieval villages, a Seat is a wise choice.

Back in the late 60s, my brother had a Simca 1000. French Chrysler product, similar to the Renault 10 - rear watercooled engine of <1L displacement and <40 bhp (the Renault was a bit more powerful). In the mountains on the PA Turnpike, it could JUST BARELY exceed the 45 mph minimum speed - flat out, foot to floor.

It looked like this, except Mike's was dark blue. We called it the Blue Lemon, because it gave him no end of trouble.

Pops bought a dark blue Simca in Italy when we lived there. I don't even think he kept it for more than a year before getting a Fiat 124 sedan AUTOMATICO! Mom said everyone in town would gather 'round the car in awe of teh automatic.

Gansitos are a rare choice for me, as fruit flavors and chocolate flavor at the same time sometimes turn me off but I just happened to be in the mood for it last night.

My favourite gelato joint in town is in the process of moving so they won't have gelato 'til after the move. #sad

The Metrolink cars last night were even more drab than these, having just the horizontal blue line, no wave forms. maybe they'll put the waves on when the get to SoCal.
