Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The last five years of his life with a watchman device to monitor his afib. Still rode regularly through last fall when the weather turned.

Ya know, that "feature" that automatically converts all caps to all lower case is pretty damn annoying. Good thing you can't tell the difference between I and l.

For much of my grade school ute our neighbourhood was kind of landlocked by "not great for cycling" roads, so I mostly didn't go out that far. Though I do remember going out a few times, and I don't recall my parents ever strictly forbidding it.

It was a different age.

The amount I had.

I didn't have a bicycle helmet during those years, but if I had, my hair wouldn't have been a reason not to wear it.

Speaking of weird films, has anyone seen The Myth of Man? I’d like to see it but I’m too tight to pay for it.

I'm tempted. Only $3.99 for standard def, might have to fire it up tomorrow evening.

I've seen Ink, by the same writer/director... it was, um, interesting? It's been a while, but what I recall is that it struck me as being artsy for the sake of being artsy, so take that how you will.

And here I would have thought that you'd know the sites to avoid paying for even esoteric stuff.

I probably could find it, but it's just easier to throw a couple more bucks to Bezos sometimes.

The trailer is giving me Brazil vibes.

Wow, wonder if the whole film is dialogue-free...

After receiving a mysterious message from the cosmos, a deaf young woman journeys across a visually stunning steampunk world in search of her creator. With no words spoken and joined by a quirky group of unlikely allies, she embarks on an odyssey exploring faith, mortality, and the power of human connection in the space between life and death.

With all the riding I do, atrial fibrillation is the one thing I worry about the most. Risk increases with total training volume.

When exercise becomes risky for AF:
  • > 2000 lifetime hours of exercise
  • > 10 hours per week
  • male
Check, check, and check.
I understand that it's empirical data, but 2000 lifetime hours is ridiculously easy to surpass. Let's say you ride 1500 miles a year, at an average speed of 15 mph. That's 100 hours a year, and all you're doing is 30 miles a week. Do that for 20 years, and that's 2000 hours right there. I don't know that I'd call someone who does 30 miles a week an "endurance athlete".

I'm trying to figure out which hot sauces are on Artemis II.

Someone on ****** says:
Sriracha, Tabasco, Frank’s RedHot, Heinz Hot Taco Sauce, and Cholula Hot Sauce

But I'm gonna remain skeptical until I see a better source.

Why are there five hot sauces? There should only be one.

there are so many studies on exercise and aFib. this is a good meta study among the many

https://academic.oup.com/europace/ar...uestAccessKey=

approximately 5 times the risk for aFib! the study on cyclists specifically is kind of interesting, it compared actual former professional cyclists to golfers of similar age and other characteristics.

https://academic.oup.com/eurheartj/a...9/1/71/2398434

unfortunately the study did not correct for the fact that golf is a horrible, horrible thing to spend your time doing and anyone who has ever ridden a road bike would rather be an aFib-ridden-cyclist than a stable-sinus-rhythm-golfer.
