Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: everywhere

No Palouse wheat or canola report today, but my favourite road in the area, the Old Spiral Highway, on the very edge of the Palouse. Photo by Brenda Johnston.

we have a new robot friend that vacuums and mops too. so now we only have to "spot" sweep or vacuum stubborn spots

As I am no longer a working stiff, I don't have much excuse to buy such labor saving devices. Plus, it would probably scare Dory and Sheila might grab it and run off with it.

A couple of friends got a Roomba several years ago not long after they got cats and said it was a game changer in getting all the cat hair everywhere.

I walked to the CVS this morning, not to buy a Lotto, but to get some jabs. COVID and shingles (yes, I'm old).

I told Coach ChatGPT about the jabs, and he/she/they/it insisted I either rest or do a stupid-easy-and-short ride. Ugh! Really, Coach?!

Fine. I did an erg mode zone 1 ride on the trainer. So dull! At least the Rouvy route had a view of the Grand Tetons:

Check out the tan on my avatar. I'm gonna need some virtual SPF 50.

I made the sorry mistake of getting a COVID, shingles and pneumonia shot all at one time. Felt pretty bad for two days, low grade fever and super tired. No cycling, just sleep and binge watching.

We had a roomba because we had two black labs that shed like crazy - and a cat. The darn thing would either choke on the dog hair or get wedged under the several pieces of furniture. We had to roomba proof the room with all sorts of cushions so the thing woudln’t get stuck or try to vacuum up electric cords. And then there was zero programming so it was totally random and missed big areas, besides going into the bathroom and closing the door on itself and bumping itself until its battery died. Gave the thing away to the Goodwill with lots of bad will.

There needs to be one that is methodical using a grid and can be programmed to the grid or recognize furniture and not go cave diving and get stuck - at least they have auto empty when the start getting full these days, but don’t know how much they have improved since am not interested in dumping a wad of cash on another.

I have you beat. PB&J on sourdough, an apple, and some cottage cheese. Pretty standard lunch for a quasi vegan.

How does the matching take place? Assuming there's a standard organ pipe, the easiest variable would be placement.

On my walk Saturday I went by a lawn I've seen being "mowed" by a robot mower.

This week the robo-mower was idly parked in the middle of the lawn (dead?) and the grass was getting long in spots. Oof.

I advise people stagger their shots at 1-2 week intervals. Just because you CAN get them at the same time does not mean you SHOULD!

Lidl-Trek was using this set up at Paris Roubaix. A TPU tube as a liner for a makeshift run flat system. Also, lots of 35mm tires were seen and even XTR rear derailleurs.

We have arrived in Koreatown LA. Rental bike acquired. Pic below. It’s nothing fancy but fine for my needs.

Watched a video where the mechanic was recommending buying TPU tubes, with removable valve caps, for tubeless tires. The logic was that when it was time to replace the tire, there would be no mess and that in the event of a puncture, the sealant would still work. Interesting concept with a small weight penalty - but there are always trade offs for convenience.
