The landlord (best landlord ever) wrote today to remind me that brush clearance is due this coming Friday. This includes pine needles in the rain gutters and trimming small trees and shrubs. I guess I have to pay someone to do it, or risk messing up the healing of my foot, or leave it and risk the landlord getting hit with a fine (unlikely).

Watched Lily last nite so the whole crew (MIL, wife, SIL, niece) could go to the Symphony Hall downtown and watch a program that culminated in The Emperor piano concerto. What a great piece, I bet it was a total knockout.

Oh I have more!
If a LEO saw us, would we have violated the penal code?
If we go to trial, there is NFW that would stand up in court.
I’m here all week, folks. You’ve been a great audience.

It's doing things to me mentally. It's the longest I've been off the bike since 1988, but then I could walk and go places and even work, (I was teaching automotive classes then, not wrenching). So this is the longest I have ever been sedentary. Being off the bike wouldn't be as bad if I could do long walks or even hike in the hills.

TIZ still works for me sometimes, but it does seem to be hit and miss. Sometimes when a race is happening I go to youtube and do a search and may get a live stream for free. Sometimes a paid site will pop up but I don't know if they are trustworthy.
Some races are on Peacock, like the TDF. You could buy it for a month (if it's available in your area). I think the UCI site might have options. And you can google "how to watch" which sometimes gives you options.
Flo Ike’s with my VPN set to Canada. At least I can get the Tour of Turkey. We’ll see what else might be available. I am blocke on bf with my VPN set to Canada.
Bicycle racing is a very small sport in the US, a lot of stuff available in Europe doesn't cross the pond. Don't know about Mexico.

Had two incidents on today’s ride. Both (probably) self inflicted.
First one, we were going down a fast (and damp) downhill that ends in a 3 way stop. Guy in front of me slows down, there is a car approaching from the left (we were there FIRST) so I stupidly assumed he would keep rolling. He stopped. By the time I figured this out there was NFW I could stop (damp roads plus rim brakes), so I could either crash into him, crash off the right side of the road, or go to his left. I saw the car was slowing (as it should) and chose to stay up and go around his left. I narrowly missed him and everyone behind me also rolled through, so no harm other than a scare for me. But if something bad had happened, it would have been mea culpa.
Second incident involved a nature break a couple of us took. We are out in the country and were way out of sight, but a motorist came near enough to know what we were doing. He chewed us out. I explained we were being very discreet but he kept yelling that this was not cool. I gently said I understand but we will have to agree to disagree. He would not accept that and yelled to give him our address so he can pee on our property. I don’t believe he was the property iowner, just a pissed off guy.
As in first incident involved technically I was at fault but in both cases I hope I will be forgiven.
The ride itself today was fun and fine, a bit chilly but still 100% fun.

I've been pretty lucky with injuries, or lack of injuries, all things considered. Still, riding bikes is my main social activity and I miss that part a lot. Plus, just sitting doing nothing is the suck.
I've never had to have anyone do things for me, that part of this really rubs me the wrong way, too.
Some riding friends have offered to take me and Mrs John out to lunch for my birthday sometime in the next week. Haven't seen them in over a month.

4.0? Pfft!
Here in California, a 4.0 doesn't even make the news--or trigger the "drop and cover" alert on our phones (those are annoying, BTW).
We're currently watching Fallout (post-apocalyptic romp), Unfamiliar (intense German spy thriller), HIP (French murder mystery cop comedy show).

The social networks are abuzz about the attack at the Correspondents' Dinner, with most speculating that it was staged.
I contributed this comment:
Surprisingly, my comment was not well received.

Staged? NFW!
These clowns couldn't stage a middle school production of Our Town.

Today was one of those days when you read the temperature forecast, dress accordingly, and then discover it is, in fact, significantly colder than advertised. I put on a long sleeve jersey, thinking it might end up being too much, and because I was thinking about doing a climb, I stuffed a vest in a pocket. Then I rolled the bike out to the driveway, and immediately pulled the vest out and put it on. I thought, "I'll just wear it till it warms up!" Ended up wearing it the whole time. Mostly, it was the wind, which was in the 10-20 mph range, and the clouds which spent a lot of time blocking the sun.

The wind essentially was headwind from the moment I turned back North. Oh, well. C'est la vie. I remembered my mantra, which I stole from "Finding Nemo" - "Just keep spinning. Just keep spinning. Just keep spinning. Just keep spinning." Works a treat!

I did note, at my turnaround spot, that the thistles are blooming. I remembered the story about why the thistle is the symbol of Scotland. Something about the Vikings trying to sneak into the Scots' camp at night to attack so they took off their shoes, which worked to some poor bugger stepped on a thistle. Looking at this one, I can imagine how painful it would have been.
