Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Race bike in trainer mode. Rear wheel has a training tire on it.

SRM installed, reynolds ouzo pro Al bars, and aliante.

Hopefully, I'll get a warranty replacement for my SLR that cracked, but I like the Aliante a lot for now.

I've been fit on this bike, so the stem stays flipped up. Back issues pop up when I flip the stem. I think I might go get the fit fine tuned in feb/march before the season starts.

Mark where your hoods are right now and then move them towards the drops. You'll have better access to brakes and shifters in the drops, which is nice since you can shift more easily. You'll also be able to change them back if you don't look how they feel.

If it helps, it'll allow your wrists to be straighter, but if it's comfortable and works for you, then I wouldn't really mess with it.

If you want, mark where your bars are rotated on the stem (i.e. pencil a line joining the bars and the stem), and then rotate them to see if you like them there. You won't like the drops anymore if you like them right now, but you'll know how much to move the hoods to make yourself more comfortable. Measure/mark where everything is right now. I honestly can't stress that enough. It's great to have something to come back to if you don't like where you move things. I've gotten myself into so much trouble by just messing around without any real reason and really ruining my fit.

I think a SRM and unflipped stem is some sort of racer party foul.

I'd like to help you out, though. Send me your SRM and I'll send you my Red crank. We'll call it an even swap.

Bits & pieces:

I'll post a different configuration when it's differently configured.

*edit* Finally finished it up today:

Sorry about the lighting. What should have been artsy-fartsy ended up being anything but. Oh well.

Is there any advantage of having your wheels mismatched?

Aero front matters a lot more than aero back. If you can't afford both, aero front is what you invest in.

In his case, however, I suspect he only has one PowerTap wheel (looks like a DTSwiss 1.1) and currently has it set up on his racing rig.

hhmmmm, but don't most (factory) wheelsets that have unequal rims, use the taller/ more aero rim for the rear wheel?

That's for handling purposes. The reason why you can't put a disc on the front wheel is that the bike becomes too unstable from a handling standpoint, not because the rear wheel is more important to aerodynamics. I can't find a great link for this right now, but check out this guy's thoughts.

Thinking of swapping out my CAAD7 frame for a new Six Carbon...might look into getting a Six Carbon 5 in Lightning White and swapping my parts over..

It's the only thing I would even consider trading my CAAD7 for..(aside from a super-six hi-mod red in lightning white, but that might be a bit out of my price range)

Not sure if I've posted in this thread given the 26 pages so far...

I'm glad I got a RAW (Clear Coat) CAAD9 before everything started to get "painted"

Yeah, I'm aware that this is not a geared bike... but it's still a road c'dale, and beautiful too!

Beautiful to be sure, the saddle looks like the same "ponza" asshatchet that was on my 9. The "fuse" tires were o.k. for about 1,000 miles.

It is that same asshatchet. But, i'm kinda used to it as my geared road bike started out with one too. Maybe I don't know what I'm missing. I did get a Specialized saddle for the geared bike, which is pretty comfortable, but it has the drawback of squeaking against my amfib tights in a way that feels almost like nails on a chalkboard.

The tires seem ok. They're sorta cut up but I've only had one or two flats in 7-8 months. I'm not in a hurry to replace them - they're doing the job just fine for now.

The stitching on the 'ponza' was the main problem I had, it dug into my lack of "cushion" for the sit bones, I swapped it out for a better perch.
