As goofy as it looks, I think you are doing it right. You are smart in valuing comfort over looks. As your wife gets more accustomed to riding and gains some flexibility, she'll be able to ride in a more aggressive position. But then again, if she doesn't ever get mor bent, so what? At least she's riding!

My Wife's "new" 1997 Litespeed Natchez with a modern twist
So I found a really good deal locally for a complete 1997 53cm Litespeed Natchez bike. I stripped it down, sold the old components and rebuilt it up with some lightly used black Shimano 105s, new components, and all new decals.
This was for my wife and it is her first road bike, so I spiced it up a bit with colors (she loves blue) and brought out a bit more of the native Litespeed, put some cross brakes to transition from a hybrid, and did a set-up that's more relaxing, so take it easy on the non-racer compliant settings for now.

Hey I perused your thread on your ED SL. Very nice!!! Dean has some great welds! Dean bikes are really up there in quality with the more-lusted after frames but it'a too bad John the owner is such a piss-poor businessman. I would never buy another Dean. I'm eventually going to buy another Ti frame for my wife, and won't even consider Dean. I tell everyone that inquires about my frame to spend their money elsewhere. Too many builders out there that put out a great product and provide good customer service. That being said, I still love riding mine. My next Ti roadie?? A Seven!!!

Litespeed Classic in Co Cyclist Team Issue paint (center) -- no close ups handy on photobucket --- this looks like a pic taken in the aftermath of a garage clean up operation as its rare for bikes and motorcycles to be outside at the same time ---LOL, just noticed the front wheels on the track and road bike are flip flopped-- dont know what the motivation was there -- maybe to spread fear at my local TT, IDK

Very nice bike. Mine is like that but with red tyres. I used to have white tape but that got too dirty too quickly.
