Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

But you know, I'm not sure "hot" is a matter of good taste anyhow. Seems to me that "volcanically hot" is in rather poor taste.

As if only those that agrees with your taste matter in this thread?

Not my fault that that you fail at visualizing color scheme that allow visual flow in photography.

If someone thinks it goes good with more yellow, let it be.

If someone think it won't go good, let it be.

Everyone has a right to like what they want to. It's not anyone's responsibility to change what they see as beautiful.

LET IT BE.

maybe this thread should get locked, and we all use this thread

The New and Improved HotRNot Thread

Just a thought.

Many people don't read the first post of this thread, and things sometimes get ugly after that.

I didn't realize this was supposed to be have only simple, uncritical "hot" or "not" responses, and while it is suggested, it isn't clear in reading the first post here. In any event, after I started following them, I never could keep the two threads straight, except it seemed one or the other did make a bigger deal of things like garage doors, valve stem angles, etc.

Keep it to PM if you have nothing to contribute to topic of thread.. like this one:

If you disagree with someone's opinion on topic, state your reasons and how you think the bike can be improved or better picture could be taken.

Posters who just want to disagree without offering cause would always post no-contributing posts regardless which thread the discussion is moved.
In effort to clean up this thread from non-contributing posts would be simply identify those non-contributing posts and keep them to PM if you have nothing to contribute.

Personally, I keep the critics related to the bike itself, not garage door, not valve angles.. just how the visual of the bike itself can be improved to allow better presentation, doesn't have to be spotless clean, leave the grease, dirt, rust, grime on the bike if they fit into the bike's purpose.

Lol. Your "visual flow" notion is laughable. Photography is all about directing the viewers eyes to where you want them by utilizing various techniques such as subject size and placement within the image, framing, leading lines, selective focus, etc. What you propose, adding splashes of color at the periphery, would do the opposite - it would lead to a lack of visual focus and detract from the otherwise clean lines of the setup.

The tl;dr version: God, no.

We can discuss photography if you like to start another thread about photography, but that's not related to topic of thread.

If you have nothing to contribute to improving the bike; it is not related to thread.. keep if in PM.

Trollololol. *You're* the one that brought up photography in an attempt to justify your horrible, horrible suggestion, but you happened to do so with a photographer.

I may not have a good understanding as to what started the bickering in the last few posts, but I think it is due to some folks posting bikes in the "Hot or Not" thread without following the set standards to the thread. I would like to suggest that those standards be posted periodically (once a month, or every other month?) to help those who are new be aware of them without having to search or preview posts from the past before posting. That may help with the confusion of this thread. JMHO
Cheers

I would suggest that a mod add a simple note to the TOP of the first post in this thread:

1) Post picture(s) of your bike. Get responses of "hot" or "not" and maybe some commentary about why.

2) This thread is about aesthetics, which can be subjective, however staging, presentation, finish, and details all count. Think of it more like a car show where you detail clean and stage it for the show, and less like a slide deck from your vacation where you "run what you brung" and all that matters is functionality.

3) Have fun! Don't get butt hurt! If you think you MIGHT get butt hurt, do NOT post a picture of your bike and do not comment on other people's bikes. Getting butt hurt in this thread is a bannable offense. Just don't do it.

If one wants a critique of their bike, they should go here:

I concur.

Posting any photos of your bike on this forum, usually leads to some sort of critique.

Most people try to be polite and give constructive criticism, but some people are way too sensitive, and unable to accept any criticism. If you can’t deal with people criticizing your bike, please DO NOT post a photo of it here. There’s a “sticky” thread that works well for those that just want to post a photo of their ride, without worrying about negative comments.

Good point, noodle soup.

If all you want is a picture of your bike in this forum, with no expectation of a response, go here:

What road bike do you have?

I like the idea of Hot or Not, but some people confuse it with "this is my new bike".

If you want to have your bike judged, post it in "Hot or Not". If you just want to post a photo of your bike, Hot or Not isn't the right place for that.

I agree - a lot of people fail to see the difference. A lot of conversations in this thread seem to go like this.

Poster A: Here's my new bike, please be nice, still dialing in the fit.

Poster B: It's alright, but the saddle's pointed way down, the handlebars are at a very weird angle, and the shifters are pointing down. You might want to try and take the photo on a less busy background.

Poster A: OMG WHY ARE YOU SO RUDE!!! MY NEW BIKE IS PERFECT!!!
